Hamlet

Thesoftraysofsunlight fall across Annie’s beautiful face. I study her freckles, wondering how many constellations I can find in them. Eventually, I let my gaze settle onto her lips, still swollen from a night of kissing and love making.

After the first time in the cave, I brought her home and led her straight to the bed. Then I made slow, gentle love to her. To my surprise and delight, it was even better than the wild, manic, caveman sex. I tasted every inch of her luscious body, and she was just as delicious as I knew she’d be.

She’s ruined me for all other women. For the rest of my life, I’ll never want anyone but her.

How did I let this happen? She’s keeping secrets from me. Until I know what they are, I can’t fall in love with her.

I can’t.

I won’t.

I already have.

I swear under my breath, running a hand through my hair. I’m in love with this girl. No ifs ands or buts about it.That butt, though…oh, my, that butt…

Who would believe that Hamlet, the playboy, could fall in love so hard and so fast with a woman he barely knows?

My siblings won’t believe it.

I wouldn’t, if I didn’t know better.

Annie murmurs my name in her sleep, reaching out for me. I pull her against my chest, cradling her in my arms. Nothing in my life has ever felt more right.

I allow myself a few more minutes to hold Annie. Then I roll out of bed, get dressed, and start breakfast.

As I’m setting the table, Annie saunters into the kitchen wearing nothing but one of my old Lake Mercury Marina t-shirts.

My cock twitches, desperate to be back inside her. I groan. “How dare you come to breakfast looking so fuckable? You know I have to go back to work today.”

She grins. “Aren’t you afraid to leave me all by myself? What if I rob you blind?”

I laugh. “There’s not much to steal. I spend as much time as possible traveling.” My mind drifts to all the places I’d like to take Annie. “Besides, I trust you completely.”

She pinches her lips together. “Has anyone ever told you that you trust too easily?”

I shrug. “Most people are good.”

“Most isn’tall,” she points out. “What if I’m a serial killer?”

The corner of my mouth lifts into a smile. “If you are, then I’m safer at work than I am here with you.”

She laughs, breaking a piece of bacon in half and popping a bite into her mouth. “True.”

I cut into my egg and yolk oozes out. I sop it up with a bit of toast and savor it on my tongue.“Besides, I know you’re not a serial killer.”

“How can you know for sure?”

“You can’t say dirty words. Our first night together, you couldn’t even saymasturbate.”

Her cheeks flush. “So? Didn’t you ever seeMisery? Annie Wilkes can’t say anything stronger than ‘Oh, poo,’ and she’s a total psychopath. We even have the same name.”

I laugh, but then my mood turns somber. “You are hiding something from me, though. What is it?”

She gazes at me, her blue eyes as fathomless as the sky. “Hamlet…”

“Are you in trouble with the law?”
