“Eek,” Juniper squeals. She waves as she rushes off singing, “I’m getting married today.”

Harmony merely rolls her eyes before following her.

“You need a ride?” Miller asks.

I scan the area and realize he’s already picked up all the boxes and debris.

“I’ve got my bike,” I say and hurry toward it before I decide tackling Miller again is the best idea I’ve ever had.

No. There will be no tackling of Miller today. He’s a grumpy jerk.Who’s also trying to prove something to a parent who passed away. I shush my inner voice. I don’t need a reminder of Miller being human. His grumpy ass is sexy enough as it is.

Chapter 17

I know where all of you live. ~ Post from Eden on the Winter Falls Facebook page

“Great job with decorations,” Harmony says as she plops down next to me that night at Juniper’s wedding reception.

The wedding itself was a small intimate affair with attendance limited to Juniper’s family. The reception dinner was slightly bigger with friends and family gathered around the tables I decorated this afternoon.

And now it’s time for the party. Practically every resident of Winter Falls is here. I may have even spotted some A-list actors.

I beam at Harmony. “Thanks.”

“We didn’t have any doubt you could do it,” Soleil adds from the other side of me.

They might not have had any doubts but I did. Lots and lots of doubts.

“I did,” Ashlyn says as she sits across from me.

“You’re the one who convinced Juniper to give me the gig,” I remind her. When Ashlyn asked me if she wanted me to convince her sister to hire me, I swallowed my pride and said yes despite not being convinced I could pull it off.

She shrugs. “Is it wrong to say I was hoping for a disaster?”

I throw a pine cone at her. “Yes.”

Moon settles in the seat next to Ashlyn. “What are we talking about? I hope it’s how Miller is staring at Eden as if he wants to eat her whole.”

“He definitely wants to eat a little something-something.” Ashlyn waggles her eyebrows.

I feel my cheeks heat, but I pretend I’m not blushing. “Knock it off. He’s a complete grump. Totally not my type.”

“I thought you didn’t have a type,” Harmony says.

“Yeah.” Soleil nods. “Aren’t you all about free love?”

I roll my eyes. “Free love doesn’t mean I sleep with every man I run into.”

In fact, I haven’t slept with a man in a very long time. Before I can stop myself, my eyes find Miller who is indeed staring at me. No, not staring at me. Staring is too tame an action for what he’s doing. His eyes are devouring me. The rest of my body warms under his perusal.

Our gazes hold as he stands and prowls toward me. I fist my hands in my lap before I fan myself in front of my friends. I’d never hear the end of it.

“Is it hot in here?” Ashlyn asks as she pulls on the collar of her bridesmaid dress.

Moon, Harmony, and Soleil look to where she’s pointing. Their eyes widen in unison when they notice Miller approaching.

“I’d put up with grumpy for hot,” Moon says.

Harmony nods. “Totally.”
