Gia snorted. “Do better than that. He hasn’t approached any of the rest of us with lotion. Just you, sweet cheeks.”

“He also wanted to spritz you yesterday,” Kara added.

“They do that for anyone,” I argued. “It’s complimentary.”

Gia adjusted her wide brimmed hat and sipped her mai tai. “But rubdowns, however, aren’t complimentary. I promise, Maisy, that man is into you.”

I stayed quiet, holding my breath as I watched Malachi choose several lotions from a shelf and toss a towel over his shoulder.

He turned, squarely meeting my gaze as if he could see right through my dark sunglasses. His eyes were the blue of ocean water, and they sparkled even from a distance. But when he narrowed them, staring at me as if to offer a challenge… that’s when my body reacted in a mysterious way.

Everything tingled with awareness from my toes to my eyebrows. My breath came faster. My lips went so dry I had to lick them.

And oh! That got his attention. I could tell by the way his stance stiffened just slightly.

My heart skipped double time as he cooly strolled toward us.

“He’s coming over. What are you going to do?” Kara asked.

Helena answered for me. “She’s going to say yes this time.”

“I don’t know…” Gia mused. “If she doesn’t, maybe I will.”

I didn’t like that idea at all. Turning to tell her, I caught the dip of her eyebrow as she winked.

“Hello, ladies.” Malachi’s voice was low and smooth. It reminded me of melted caramel. I wondered if his lips tasted as sweet.

When I looked at him, his gaze was still singularly on me.

“It looks like you could use some lotion this afternoon.” He raised a dark eyebrow, and I couldn’t help but grin. “You might not know this,” he continued, “but I am a master lotion applicator.”

“Is that so?” I don’t know how I managed it but my voice was exactly the right amount of flirty, and he shot me the sexiest smirk.

“Allow me to prove it. I won’t leave an inch of your skin uncovered.”

Well, geez. He made it sound like a sultry promise.

How could I say no tothat?

I swallowed hard, shoring up my voice so it wouldn’t crack before answering with a single word.

“Sure.”

Chapter Two

Malachi

“Sure.”

I was so used to hearing her turn me down I almost didn’t register the favorable response.

Sure.

She’d said it like it was no big deal, like I hadn’t asked her several times over the past three days—the first time because I wanted an excuse to linger, and every time after, just to see the delicate blush stain her arabesque cheeks.

But today it wassure, and now I couldn’t stop staring at her like she was an open buffet.

Living on a private resort island, I was no stranger to beautiful people. Women in various stages of perfection were everywhere. But this woman…
