Oh. Did he mind?

“You want it back?”

“No, Andi. I want to kiss you.”

My heart raced in my chest.

I hadn’t been kissed in so long. And especially not the kind of kiss that would mean something.

With Baker, I knew it would mean something.

I had a feeling it would meaneverything.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

It wasn’t lost on me that this is how I agreed to our first date.

He didn’t ask twice. In the next breath, his hands were cradling my cheeks, tilting my face as his mouth descended on mine, desperate and needy. When our lips touched, it was like a firebrand, hot and steady, leaving a permanent mark on my soul.

Oh, damn.

That’s what I wanted with Baker. That’s what I’d been looking for all along.

Something permanent. Something true and right and solid.

Like my friends had.

Shay asked me once if I believed in soul mates. I told her I’d let her know when I found mine.

Well… Baker’s kiss made me a believer.

His tongue pressed in, tangling with mine as we tasted each other. He was all man, raw and fierce as he took my mouth. I couldn’t get enough of him, my hands a desperate tangle in his hair.

He pulled away, breathing hard as he pressed his forehead to mine.

“You taste so fucking sweet, woman. How am I supposed to drive us home now?”

“Well, there’s that getting-to-know-you thing. That should keep us busy,” I murmured, still holding onto him like he was an anchor and I was a lost ship. “And, you know… the faster you get us home, the faster we can see what comes next.”

He pulled back to meet my gaze, his eyes singeing me.

“Oh, baby, I know exactly what comes next. The question is, are you ready for that?”

I pressed my lips together, trying to keep my thoughts from wandering to all the naughty scenarios I never let enter my mind.

Well… there was that one time, in the bath, when I couldn’t stop thinking about his blue, blue eyes and how they didn’t look away like other eyes. How they studied me as I approached. How they stared with… desire.

Oh, wow. I couldn’t recognize it before, but now it was clear.

We’d circled around each other long enough to know what we wanted. The rest was just details.

“I am,” I answered.

Baker groaned, kissing my lips one last time before he pulled away and put the truck in drive.

“You’ve got two hours—or less—to convince me, Andi.”
