Most of the omegas around me look relieved. Within seconds, their expressions droop and they’re all settling back onto their worn mattresses. They’re just glad they weren’t dragged out of their cages and hurt by these newcomers.
Now that everything’s quiet again, they sink back into their drugged states of numbness.
Millie curls up on her mattress and closes her eyes. The calm look on her face tells me she’s not bothered about the soldiers who’ve come to claim their ownership over us.
Millie and every other omega have given up all their hopes of escaping this hellhole but I haven’t. There’s no way I’m wasting the opportunity that has come my way.
I have to get out of these hellish underground bunkers before my life gets extinguished from this beaten, broken body of mine. These soldiers will be back to get us out of these cages and that’s when I’ll take my chance.
Seth and his friend might act like they care about us but I doubt they’re any different from the alphas who’ve been supporting the Black Widow’s cause. I’m sure they’re already planning to sell us to another master.
After all, who can resist the millions of dollars they could make by selling off over a hundred omegas? I’m sure the two commanders and their men will keep our discovery a secret and come back for us later.
Sitting down on the floor, I bide my time. My only chance of escape would be during the time they shift us to a new location. They’ll have to take us out of these underground chambers before carting us off to our new masters.
That’s when I’ll make my move, I decide, hoping I’ll have the strength to finally escape this hell.

Dawn breaks on the eastern horizon, lighting up the woods that surround us. Smoke and dust rise all around us, making it difficult to see anything clearly. The heavy stench of blood and gunpowder pervades the air, making it hard to breathe.
“We must get them out of there,” Captain Solveig says in a pained, suffocated voice. “I can’t stand seeing those women being caged liked animals.”
“We will help them, Caleb,” I say, supporting his weight as he leans heavily on me. “But first, you need to get treated.”
“This is nothing,” he says, dragging his body alongside mine. “I’ll survive.”
“That’s a gunshot wound,” I remind him. “Iris will kill me if you end up losing an arm.”
A faint smile comes onto his lips despite the pain he’s suffering. That’s the effect my cousin has on him. He’s madly in love with his omega mate.
Despite the smoke choking the air, we catch glimpses of corpses littering the forest floor. Most of them belong to the men of the Black Widow but I’m sure some of our soldiers lie among them too.
“We can’t let the media know what we’ve discovered,” says Caleb. “We’ll endanger those omegas if the wrong person gets a whiff of them.”
The sound of a chopper flying low over our heads alerts us. Looking up, we catch a glimpse of the logo of a local news channel on the tail end.
“Fuck, they’re already here,” he says through gritted teeth.
“They won’t be able to get close,” I say. “This area is tightly secured by our men. Let them get a few aerial footage while they can. I’ll issue a no-trespass order soon.”
Caleb nods, allowing me to guide him toward the tents in the distance.
Armed men in black, maroon, and green uniforms fan out around us, checking on the corpses that cover the grounds. If any of the rebels are found alive, they’d be immediately arrested and taken into custody.
We’re determined not to let a single man escape us today. We’ll punish every person who’s been part of the Black Widow operations.
A sigh of relief escapes me when Caleb and I finally enter one of the tents that are serving as temporary first-aid booths. He needs to get treated immediately to prevent his wound from getting infected.
I’m sure the gunshot wound hurts like hell but he’s swallowing the pain with a grim, stony expression on his face. All his focus is on completing our mission to destroy the Black Widow.
Caleb is a captain of the Solveig Military Pack. It’s because of him and his brothers that we’ve been able to find our lost cousin and learn about the true reason behind my uncle’s death twenty years ago.
The Black Widow and its leader, Nox Callahan, masterminded the raid that took his life. My aunt died with him while their month-old daughter was lost in the attack.
The Burton Pack is determined to capture him and bring him to justice. The surprise raid we conducted last night was to catch him and destroy the main headquarters of the feared Black Widow.
