If only I wasn’t tainted by the Black Widow, I think bitterly.I’m nothing but a shell of my former self. Seth and his amazing brothers deserve someone so much better than me.

“Hey, Rory.” Oliver’s leaning in and gazing at me. His clear blue eyes shimmer, reminding me of a summer sky. “Why do you look so sad? Are you missing home?”

I shake my head. “It’s nothing.”

“Did you call your dad yet?” Simon asks.

“No, I’ll text him right now.” My phone gives me the perfect excuse to look away and hide the bitter emotions in my eyes. I send a quick text to Dad, telling him not to worry and that I’m with some of my old friends.

“Come on, I’m starving,” says Simon, leading me toward the glass-walled diner.

I’ve been to this place several times since I was a child. Nostalgia washes over me when I see that it still looks the same.

There’s a large brightly-colored plastic cone stuck to the roof of the building. A sign just below it reads “Old John’s”.

The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafts into my nostrils the moment I step through the doors. Breathing deeply, I look around at the vast restaurant. Even though it’s a weekday, the place is crowded with families enjoying their brunch.

“Over there,” says Simon, tugging me alongside him. “That table by the window is free.”

Sunshine streams in through the clean glass windows, illuminating the corner brightly. Simon takes up the chair beside me while Oliver drags one from the other side and manages to fit it along the table on my other side.

Once again, I’m securely sandwiched between the twins. We’re tightly packed but I’m enjoying their closeness too much to care.

The smell of pancakes spreads all around us, making my mouth water. I don’t even have to look at a menu card to decide what I’m having today.

A young waitress comes to our table and hands out menu cards.

“Could I get a cappuccino, please?” Oliver asks, flashing our waitress a big smile.

The young woman looks struck as she stares dumbly at him. “Uhh-huh,” she says, nodding enthusiastically.

“I’d like the steak sandwich with eggs and hash browns,” Simon says in a deep voice, his gaze still perusing the menu.

I’m sure it’s not often that the waitress hosts a table with twin alphas and an omega. Fascination swirls in her eyes as her gaze toggles between Simon and Oliver. “You guys are so pretty,” she says with a shy grin.

The twins chuckle and wink at her.

A torturous burn spreads through my chest. My nails dig into my thighs as I glare at the young waitress. How dare she flirt withmyalphas?

I’m startled by my thoughts. Neither Simon nor Oliver belongs to me.

They’re among those rare alphas who treat everyone with equal respect. They deserve someone who’s so much better than me, I remind myself.

“Rory?”

“Huh?” I glance over at Oliver.

“What would you like to eat?”

I look up at the waitress who’s watching me apprehensively.

I school my features into a more friendly expression. “Pancakes with eggs and bacon, please.”

“Sure. Would you like anything to drink with that?”

“Some regular black coffee would be great.”

The waitress nods and leaves our table.
