He moved in front of her, insinuating himself between her legs and running one hand up the outside of her leg. Her body trembled, and Coop was fairly sure it was more from desire than fear. Her eyes were locked with his and he could see the residual fear dissipating as he leaned in, looking down at her. His right hand came up from where it had been resting on her waist and brushed the side of her breast as it traveled up to grasp the nape of her neck, holding her head still as he lowered his mouth to hers.

Her lips were sweet under his, tasting like the headiest champagne. He nibbled on her lips—persuading, seducing, coaxing, and waiting for any sign of resistance. There was nothing other than a quiet sigh as her body softened and she leaned into him. Never had a kiss or a sigh moved him as much. He felt intoxicated and yet firmly in control of the encounter. She felt safe with him, protected.

When her lips parted and her tongue darted out to slide against his own, Coop took control and the sweet kiss morphed into something far headier and more dominant. His tongue slid past her teeth like a warrior of old gaining new territory and taking no prisoners. Their tongues danced and tangled as if they’d been doing this for years. Coop knew he’d kissed many, many women, but he also knew this was the first time it had ever felt like this.

Her arms wrapped around him, resting for a moment on his waist before slipping down and cupping his ass. The hand not holding her head in position skimmed down from her waist to slip between her legs and cover her sex. He waited only for a moment before slipping inside her panties to spread her labia and stroke from her slit up to her clit, provoking a strangled cry of pleasure from her lips. He deepened the kiss as his fingers returned to her core to penetrate her wet heat. God, she felt like silk. His cock throbbed against the fly of his jeans.

When she arched her back as she came, she rubbed up against the hard line of his erection and practically purred. He withdrew his fingers, chuckling softly as she scooted on the countertop in an attempt to keep them within her.

“Like that, do you?” he asked as he pressed them deep again and scissored them, making her moan. God, he’d always loved the sound of a woman taking her pleasure, but Anabella’s was especially satisfying. “You’re so wet,” he whispered.

She pulled back and he moved the hand at her neck to tangle in a fistful of her hair and squeezed, tugging her head back. He left a trail of kisses from her mouth to her ear, where he nuzzled her and whispered. “You don’t pull back on me. If you want me to stop…”

He’d been about to remind her to use her safeword. The only problem was he didn’t know her safeword and was pretty damn sure she didn’t have one. Well, they were about to fix that right now.

“Pick a safeword, Anabella. Something you wouldn’t normally call out during sex.”

“A safeword?”

“Yes, if you want me to stop at any time, you just say your safeword and I don’t care what we’re doing, everything stops until I check in with you and make sure you want to proceed.”

“Um… Crocodile?”

He chuckled. “Crocodile it is.”

He penetrated her core with two fingers, curling them up and stroking gently and then with more pressure and speed, fucking her with them as his thumb pressed down on her clit. Her body shook and then shuddered as she stiffened and cried out again before she relaxed completely, and she leaned against him, allowing him to be the only thing that kept her from falling off the counter.

Coop couldn’t remember a time he’d been more pleased with himself. He’d done this for her, to her.

Leaning her head on his naked chest, he could feel her lips curl up in a smile. “That was—I’m not even sure what that was, and I don’t give a damn if it was inappropriate or not. It was as if when you pressed down on my clit, you hit a reset button…”

His cell phone crackled with the walkie/talkie feature. “Coop? We’ve got company.”

He retrieved his phone, pushing down on her head to keep it on his chest. “How they’d get in here?”

“They’re flashing federal badges. Pete is with them, and they should be pulling up to the cottage right about now.”

Coop could see the headlights as they topped the hill to head towards the cottage.

“So much for my anxiety being gone.”

“Don’t worry about it. Whatever it is, we can handle it, and you won’t be alone.”

They stepped out onto the front porch. Blinding lights from the vehicles illuminated the front of the house like a flash bang grenade. A grenade might have been less blinding.

“Cooper? Cooper McCullough?”

“That’s me. What’s this all about?” he asked, pushing Anabella behind him. He was going to need to tell her in a situation like this, her place was behind him, not beside. From behind him, he heard Anabella gasp as she hugged his back.

“Do you recognize the voice?”

He could feel her head nodding as it did so along the planes of his back.

“Who is it, baby? Do you need me to shoot them for you?”

“Crocodile,” she laughed.

“That’s my girl.”
