As her own pleasure peaked again, he drove into her harder and deeper. He closed his eyes and threw his head back as he gave a final, desperately brutal thrust and ground himself against her as he called her name and filled her to overflowing with his cum. When he was finished, he collapsed on top of her, burrowing them both down into the mattress.

A deep satisfaction she’d never known before flowed through her body, imbuing every cell with nothing but peace, contentment, and joy. She closed her eyes, held Coop close, and reveled in the moment. Finally, he rolled to her side, propping himself up on his elbow and looking down at her—a sated lion having finished his meal.

“What happened?” she asked. “I mean you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but I’m curious.”

“No, I’ve been working with a therapist. She says the more I can talk about it, the less power it has over me. There’s not a whole lot to tell. An army unit got pinned down in a firefight. Somehow, they got split up. Several really young recruits—babies really—were with a young lieutenant. One of them was shot. The lieutenant decided the kid wouldn’t make it and wanted to leave him behind. The rest of the unit disobeyed direct orders and stayed with him. The problem was, the lieutenant was an idiot on top of being a coward. We managed to find what was left of the unit and I went further into the village to see if I could find the officer. The damn coward shit himself he was so scared and wouldn’t stay down or keep quiet. He was so terrified he couldn’t even move. Finally, my team got to me and got us out.”

“Did the other men in the unit make it?”

He nodded. “And the asshole did, too, but I spent three days thinking I was going to die because I was trying to save the lieutenant. Good men put their lives on the line for me because that jackass didn’t have the stones to take care of his men.”

“I’m glad they did. Remind me to thank each and every one of them personally when this is all over.”

“I don’t want this to be over.”

“Not this,” she said snuggling in his arms. “I want the people trying to kill me part to be over.”

“Oh, that. That’s just a minor inconvenience.”

He rolled her to her side, and fitted himself against her back, wrapping one arm around her middle and spooning against her. For a man seemingly made of muscle and steel, he was surprisingly cuddly.

The morning light filtered through the seeded glass that Coop had told her was a replica of the original glass of that era, only this glass was again bulletproof. She couldn’t feel him next to her, but when she looked over her shoulder, she could see the indentation in the pillow where he’d laid his head.

It really had happened. She spent the night with Cooper McCullough. But more than that, she’d spent the night with him having amazing sex. The man was damn near insatiable, and she had loved every minute of it.

She grabbed the t-shirt she’d had on the night before, pulled it over her head and let it fall to midway to her knee. Anabella wandered out into the kitchen where she could smell all kinds of delicious things. He was fully dressed, which was a real shame because she wouldn’t have minded going back to bed for another couple of rounds—or just seeing him naked wouldn’t have made a bad second choice.

“Good morning, gorgeous,” he said, pulling her into his arms and kissing her decadently. “You didn’t have to get up; I was going to bring you breakfast in bed.”

“Isn’t the sub supposed to serve the Dom?”

“Depends on the couple. I like spoiling you. You’ll have to learn to adjust to that.”

“I think I can manage that.”

“Good girl.”

His cell phone buzzed, and he frowned at it.

“Can’t you just ignore it?”

“No.” He picked it up. “McCullough.” The phone conversation seemed pretty one sided and Coop pulled everything off the stove and shoved a piece of bacon in her mouth. “Go get dressed. Now. Put on something you can move easily in. Get a move on.” When she didn’t immediately start moving, he turned her around and smacked her ass with more than affection. “Now, Anabella.”

“I know, we’re moving.”

She ran back into the bedroom, removed the t-shirt and pulled on a sports bra, sweater, leggings, and her cross trainers—not as sturdy as his cross hikers, but they’d do in a pinch. She pulled her hair up into a high ponytail and joined him.

“Not perfect, but…”

Cooper had a small gym bag type thing into which he was stuffing his laptop on top of what looked like to be several handguns.

“I have your notebook and papers. We need to go.” He beckoned for her with his hand.

“No. I need my laptop.”

“Anabella, we need to get out of here.”

“It’ll only take me a second.”
