"You are my love, baby, my only love. I love you… I want you to know it always. I want you to feel it forever!" he rasps.

I clutch his forearms harder. “I know, I know, love! I love you, too!” I scream as my body shakes in a new wave of pleasure.

Derek falls on me and almost immediately turns us onto our sides to avoid smothering me and gathers me into his arms.

We curl up together as we struggle to regain our breath, and I kiss him over his heart with a smile on my lips.

I am so happy and sappy about our love story that it’s probably disgusting, but I don’t care. We fought for this happiness and worked hard to deserve it.

It wasn’t always easy, sometimes it felt like we moved a step forward only to take three steps back, but we made it through the mistakes and the victories, through fears and hopes.

Derek was always with me, and our love has done nothing but grow.

After I took the leap and gave him my heart, he did exactly what he promised. He's been cherishing and keeping it safe ever since.

Some of our wounds and scars we addressed alone, opening to one another, and some of the most difficult ones to deal with sometimes threatened to hurt our relationship. Still, Derek never gave up and pushed the both of us to strive for total honesty and even went as far as to go to counseling with me so that we could both work together to solve our issues with trust.

And now we’ve been almost six years together and still going strong.

I am theIce Queenno more, not in private and not on paper. I’m totally defrosted nowadays and more than happy about it. I’m just the Queen now, hisQueen, as Derek often quips, and all because of him and his love.

Epilogue 2

DEREK

Four years after that…

Ilet a dollop of honey plop into a light purple cup covered in pink hearts that proclaims my wife ‘World’s Best Mom’and stir the golden liquid with a spoon before removing the herbal tea bag and dropping a leaf of fresh mint in.

My ears are pricked for any scraps of laughter and tiny giggles, but I hear nothing over the muted chatter of the TV.

The kids were bouncing off the walls less than ten minutes ago when I left the room where they set up camp for the night to get a glass of water and brew some tea for my poor, tired wife. It sounds like they might have finally gone down for the night only halfway through theirSonic the Hedgehog -slash- Winx Club Fairies Grand Movie Marathon, though.

And thank God for that; visions of pillows and holding my wife in our signature nightly clasp under our fluffy blankets are dancing behind my eyelids already.

I can’t wait.

I yawn, but it ends in a grin.

I leave the kitchen behind, carefully holding the cup in one hand, and the closer I get to the living room, the louder the Sonic movie playing in there gets.

I keep on smiling to myself as I traverse the messy hall, my feet colliding with a string of balloons.

Dora and Leany celebrated their fifth birthday today. My kids are growing up so fast that I almost can’t believe it sometimes.

Our boys, Nevil and Alarik, are respectively eight and seven, and our youngest baby, Piper, is already two and a half.

Being only children both of us, my wife and I decided early on that we wanted a big family and that we wanted to have our kids all close together in age so they could be playmates while small and hopefully grow up to be close friends as adults. With five kids eight and under, the boys surprising us by coming in succession, and two of the girls being twins, we definitely got our dream fast.

My jaw stretches in another yawn, and I shake my head. Tonight I feel more haggard than after a straight week of sixteen hours workdays, but it was worth it to see my little princesses smile. Their party was a hit, and they loved every minute of it.

But man, the shindig wasn’t easy to put together.

They wanted to celebrate here at their paternal grandparents’ estate rather than in some fancy place in town, so location-wise, we got off easy.

The issue was that the party theme they picked, with them being two and as different from each other as night and day at that, despite being identical on the outside, was, in my wife’s words,a total mismatch of clashing craziness.
