CHAPTER FIVE

GARLAND

The dog barks and barks and I slam my pillow down over my ears, groaning.

Why the hell can’t that dog shut up?Or what is Marcus doing that it’s still barking. I don’t know. But I know that if I don’t get some sleep, I’m going to lose my mind.

As it is, I’ve been struggling. I keep seeing Marcus Gray stalking up to me, feeling his big, beautiful body up against me…so hard and warm, smelling all spicy and manly. Driving my senses wild, leaving me gasping and so damn turned on that I can’t stop thinking about him.

My body aches with hunger and I don’t know what to do. My hand slides down my body and my fingers pluck at the waist of my sleep shorts. My belly flips and I almost slide my fingers lower, touching the place that feels like I’m burning up. I feel wet and frustrated.

My hand jerks when I hear the low rumble of Marcus Gray’s tow truck pulling in across the road. I glance over at the clock and see that it’s ten o’clock and he’s just getting home.

I turn over and hide my face in the fluffy pillow, screaming in frustration, pounding on the squishy thing with my fists.

Then I sit up when he starts blasting the heavy metal music and I see the lights across the street from my closed curtains, just peeking through. The damn dog starts barking again and this time it’s outside. No longer contained in the house.

“Son of a b….” I sit up and throw my sheet off my legs. Pushing my feet into fuzzy little slippers, I skitter down the stairs in my house and dart out of my door again. I swear, anymore I spend half my nights running across the street to yell at my neighbor and frankly…I’m a little tired of it.

I need to stop doing this. It doesn’t even make me feel better anymore. I just feel more unsettled every time I face him.

Yet still….I stalk across the street, my nerves bouncing in my chest when I see him under the hood of his car with his little beagle pup sniffing around the inside of the garage, yipping and yapping and making me clench my teeth in frustration.

“Why are you home so late? That poor dog has been howling for hours!” I grumble under my breath, not sure if I want him to hear me or not.

Without missing a beat, he whirls around and leans against the car. That snarky smirk is on his perfect face again, his full lips pulling wide when he sees me.

“There’s my little spitfire! What’s the matter? Did you miss me, sweetheart?”

Clenching my fingers into fists, I screech to a stop and glare at him. “How the hell can I miss you when you keep showing up?”

He chuckles and crosses his feet at the ankles, drawing my eyes down. He’s dressed in a pair of gray sweatpants and now I know what the big deal is when women get so excited about a pair of gray sweatpants.

The man’s “package” is right there and totally visible. And if the bulge in his pants is anything to judge by, he’s got exactly what every woman wants. My eyes keep trying to drop below his waist, even though the whole picture is something to see. He’s not wearing a shirt ( I mean…why would he be?). His coppery-tan skin is smooth and unblemished, muscle after muscle stacked on top of each other, laddering all the way down until they narrow down into that v that all women love.

He’s got it all and he grins, focusing all of it on me, which makes my heart go on a freaking rollercoaster ride.

“Don’t blame me. You’re the one that keeps coming out here to see me.”

“Oh my god! Are you totally out of your mind? I come out here because you insist on keeping me up all night!”

“Right. Well, I offered to keep you up all night in a different way. All you have to do is say yes.”

My mouth falls open and I think my eyes have bugged out of my head. “I don’t want to do whatever the hell it is that you think you can distract me with!”

He shrugs his broad shoulders and those damn blue sapphire eyes twinkle at me. “I can only do what I can do for you, sweetheart.”

Rage flares up inside me and I clench my hands at my side. I push the anger down and feel my hands trembling. I feel so out of control that I can barely see straight.

“I did not ask you to do anything for me besides keep your dog quiet and quit blasting the heavy metal music. That’s it. I don’t need your suggestive comments. Your sarcastic remarks don’t do anything but disgust me. So I would appreciate it if you would just do what I asked and leave me in peace and quiet.”

I turn away from him and then squeak when a big hand wraps around my wrist and turns me around, slamming me into a huge, looming body that immediately heats me up to boiling point. I lift my head, glaring into hot blue fire and not one damn word comes out of my mouth before his full, pouty lips slam down, mastering mine.

I can’t think. Can’t do anything but feel his body pressed against mine. The hard muscles of his chest and thighs pressed into my own softer muscles. The long, heavy ridge of his manhood pressed firmly into my belly. Fire flames in my cheeks and races along my nerve endings when he growls and grinds his erection into my softness. I feel like I’m riding in an out of control car racing down a mountain and praying that I don’t crash and burn.

I jerk away from him and whimper, still feeling him all around me. I whirl and run, slamming through my door.

I lean against the door and let myself slowly slide down it, a hiccuping sob escaping as I drop my head into my hands.
