“I’m just saying. I don’t care how much someone offers me for that painting. It will be mine forever. Just like you.”

I smile when he leans over to kiss me and holds me tight. My eyes close and I breathe in deep, happier than I ever thought was possible.

Epilogue Two: Merrick

“Hey! No way in hell is this happening, Red!” I growl and pull the door open, grumbling when Onyx gets there before me and blocks me.

“No.” She shoves at me and I grunt but refuse to be pushed away.

“I’m not going anywhere, Red. She’s not going out tonight.”

“It’s her prom.”

“So I’ll take her.”

“This is not a daddy-daughter dance. This is her senior prom. You cannot take her. She’s got a date and he’s a perfectly nice boy. I’ve already talked to his mom and everything. Sweet woman.”

I glare at her. “I don’t care if you love her or not. No boy is taking my baby out. No! She can date after I’m dead!”

Lennox glares at me too and I cross my arms over my chest. “I might arrange that if you don’t stop acting like this, Daddy!”

“I’m not moving!”

Onyx growls and ducks around me and then Lennox does the same. I chase after them as they open the door and smile at the slim boy dressed in the tuxedo on the doorstep.

“Teddy! Don’t you look dashing,” Onyx says and I glare at her.

“Et tu?”

She swats me in the arm and then shimmies around me until she can get Lennox out the door. I follow behind them, growling when I see the tan sedan outside.

“No way in hell! I can drive them.”

“Not gonna happen. She is almost eighteen, Merrick! Stop being ridiculous,” she whispers.

Glaring, I follow along, growling and snapping the whole way. “Has he been checked out? I should call Booker!” I pull my phone out and Onyx snaps it out of my hand.

“I talked to his mother. We don’t need to bother your brother and have him do a background check on a teenage boy.”

“I know he’s done them on his daughter’s dates.”

She snaps, “That is not helping your case! That man is crazy!”

I watch as he helps her into the car and she turns to blow a kiss out the window at me. It feels like my heart is breaking.

I turn to Onyx. “We can’t let her go. What happens then? She moves away and we never see her.”

“She’s going to college in the fall. And I don’t think she’s going to stay here. So you need to get used to this, Merrick.”

I know she’s right but I can’t bear to see my little girl leave. But Onyx grins at me and tugs me inside the door. “Did I tell you that I talked to Andrew’s mom? She agreed to take Lucas and Lee tonight. They’re playing with Andrew for the night.”

“That means that we’re all alone,” she whispers, her fingers tugging at my tie.

I grin and tug her into me. “So we have the whole house to ourselves?”

“We do. And I thought that maybe we could…” Onyx whispers something in my ear and I dash out the door, throwing her over my shoulder.

She hits the bed with a giggle and then I start throwing clothes off, left and right.

She waits patiently and then I crawl up my beautiful wife’s body. She’s got more curves than she did when we got married but I love them.

“Now, where were we?” She throws her head back when I grind down onto her and nip her ear.

“Where I always am. In love with you,” she says. And I kiss her like the desperate, hungry man that I am for her and we lose ourselves in the way we always have, with each other. Forever. And over her shoulder I see her painting smiling at me. With all the love in her eyes that I know are in mine.
