“Layna, you didn’t even miss a capital letter,” she says. “The exclamation points are a bit much, but you just seem excited.”

“Ugh,” I groan. “He’s going to think I’m crazy.”

Piper laughs. “He’s not going to think that. He’s going to think you wanted to spend more time with him. That’s a good thing.”

“I guess,” I mutter.

“You do want to spend more time with him, right?” she asks.

“Yeah,” I say. “I mean, not at your wedding though. I’m going to be busy all weekend. I don’t think I’m going to have a lot of time to spend with him.”

“Then it’s a good thing he’s only coming for the rehearsal,” Piper says.

“About that,” I say. “Is it going to be an issue? Adding another person to the dinner?”

“No,” she says. “We’ve got the entire restaurant, remember? It’ll be fine. Stop stressing.”

I sigh, feeling marginally better. My headache is also starting to fade.

“Thanks, Piper,” I say.

“No problem,” she says. “Look at it this way, you’ll get to see how Michael does around your friends and family. The ultimate test to see if he’s boyfriend material.”

I laugh. “Maybe you’re right.”

“Of course, I am,” she says. “I can’t wait to meet him.”

“You will soon enough,” I say. “I’ll see you later this afternoon.”

“Get some rest,” she says. “You sound like shit.”

“You’re supposed to be the sweet sister,” I mutter.

“Love you!” she calls in a cheery voice, ignoring me.

“Love you, too,” I say before ending the call.

By the time I leave to make the drive to Savannah, I’m feeling much more human. Just showering and eating breakfast helped. I’m still tired, but I’m just happy the headache is gone. My car is loaded with clothes, shoes and a million random things I worried Piper might need this weekend. Though I’m not even sure what she might need. I may have over-packed, but I’d rather have something and not need it than need something and realize it’s back at home in Peach Tree.

Hannah, Piper’s wedding coordinator, will meet us at the hotel later today. Tomorrow, we have the rehearsal followed by the rehearsal dinner. Saturday morning, I planned a girls-only bridal brunch with all of Piper’s girlfriends. Harlow has some kind of top-secret event planned for just the three of us. She wouldn’t even tell me what it is, even though it’s not my wedding. The bachelorette party will follow that. Then Piper and Luke will get married on Sunday afternoon. It’s going to be a busy few days, but I just hope Piper enjoys every second. She deserves to be happy.

When I arrive at the hotel in Savannah later that afternoon, I find the hotel lobby filled with barely organized chaos. I see Piper and Luke amid a large group of strangers. Since Luke is holding a baby on his hip and a petite, dark-haired woman is smiling at the two of them, I figure this must be his sister Mya and his niece. A tall, extremely handsome man is standing next to Mya with his arm protectively around her shoulders. I stand near the door as a valet unloads the massive amount of luggage from my car and I take in the crowd of people. I see Piper hugging a woman with honey-blonde hair, both of them smiling. I’ve never met this group of people, but I know who they are from hearing my sister and Luke talk about them.

Even if I didn’t know this was the King family, it would be obvious they’re related. I recognize Van’s twin right away. They have the same face and the same dark hair, the same height and build. But that’s where the similarities end. Van lacks the long hair and colorful tattoos his brother has. His name is Wyatt, if I remember correctly. There’s something slightly disreputable about him that Van doesn’t seem to have.

“You get used to the chaos,” says a woman’s voice from beside me.

Surprised, I turn to see a pretty woman with light brown skin and a wide smile standing there. Beside her is a red-haired woman with pale skin and a mischievous grin.

“Let me know when that happens,” the red head says drily. “I was born into it that chaos, and I’m still not used to it.”

“Ignore Claire,” the first woman says. “I’m Quinn King. You must be Layna?”

I shake the offered hand. “How did you know?”

She laughs. “You look just like your sister.”

I smile, pleased by that fact.
