“It would’ve been an honor to have met her.”

She flashes me an almost shy smile.

“And it’s been anhonorto meetyou.” Preparing to collect my kiddo so that we can venture off to hear more stories, I suggest, “Wanna show us to your brother’s shop? Make an introduction? Tell me some more stories?” My beam brightens. “I love local legends and would love a couple more to lift my wife’s spirit. She ate something that didn’t agree with heragainlast night.”

“Aw, poor thing!” One open palm flies over her halter top covered chest. “Have you gotten some of the tea here? That shit doeswonders, I’m tellin’ ya. Madea swore by it. That and a splash of vodka in prune juice. She claimed that could cureanyandeverystomach problem.”

“Can’t imagine that would taste good.”

“Cranberry and vodka is definitely better on the taste buds.”

We share a round of loud, belly laughs prior to me saying, “I think we’ll try the tea first.”

“Good call.”

“Let me grab Lo, and we’ll pay for our berries and tea and let you lead the way to your brother’s shop?”

Dubs enthusiastically nods and I drop my gaze to where my son is digging in our basket.

Well.

Where hewasdigging.

Where heshouldbe fucking digging.

“Lo?” I immediately call out, eyes sweeping the somewhat busy scene. “Lo?”

Abandoning the area to continue my search is done without a second thought.

Or third.

Or even a fuck given to what I’m leaving behind for someone else to steal.

That shit doesn’t matter.

Nothingbut finding my son matters.

“Lo?!” Panic pumps more profusely through my voice at the same time I take the path deeper into the greenery. “Lo!”

“I’ll look that way,” Dubs announces prior to splitting off in the opposite direction.

Thank fuck she’s willing to help.

Two sets of eyes are definitely going to beat the one.

And how did this shit even happen?!

He was right there.

Iwas right there.

Was my attention a little split? Sure.

But that’s not new shit.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been talking to someone random while out and about with my son.

He usually loves it.
