The entire room got quiet as we all waited for Ryan to speak. He looked only at Brett, smiling as he said, “If it made you happy, I could live in a dump, but this place? It’s fucking beautiful.”
Brett launched into Ryan’s massive arms, clutching his partner like he was stuck with glue.
There was a collective sigh around the table, and as soon as Brett let go of Ryan, he left the table to call his family.
“That didn’t take long,” Burke told me. “You fell in love with it here, decided to move, and now you’re recruiting?”
“Sure. Why not?”
Damon took Ryan and Theo into his office, and Burke took me into his. They were simple spare bedrooms made into offices, but I envied him that. He could make money and still be home in the place he loved.
As Burke sat in his desk chair, I asked, “Can I change my mind?”
“You don’t want to quit?”
“I…have savings, sure, but maybe you can hire me in another capacity. I could expand your business and help you out with the security staffing. I don’t need much, but I don’t want to eat up all my savings.”
“You realize you are with a rich guy now, right?”
I sat on the loveseat he had in his office and sighed. “I don’t want his money. Oh, he can spend it all he wants on the house, getting it nice, and I’ll be okay with that, but I’m not some asshole like he’s been around all his life, Burke. I don’t want his money.”
“Good. Good for you, and yes, I’d love the help. With the club, we want to open more. Once a month, like we’d spoken about, but we both got super busy with our other jobs, so yeah. You have a job, Hud.”
“That’s great, Burke. Thanks, man.”
“Don’t thank me yet. It’s a lot. More people want security these days, and with our good rep, they come to us before many other good companies.”
“I’ll do an excellent job, Burke. I swear. I’ll spend a few hours a day on the phone and computer. Then I’ll be in training.”
“Training?”
I cracked a smile and felt my face and neck heat, and he laughed as he saw my blush.
“Are you…training him?”
“Yes and no. We’re going to do the whole enchilada. When Theo was in the other club, he dabbled in being a full slave.”
Burke’s smile faded as his eyes widened. “Full…slave? That means you’re going to be…”
“A full Master, and no, I’ve never been, never even pictured it. I don’t know how it works, how deep we need to be, or how deep he wants to be. If he needs this, I’ll do it for him.”
“You have to want it too, Hud.”
“Who wouldn’t want a man like mine to give himself so fully? And with him? He’s…so headstrong; I don’t see how that will work, but I guess we’ll see. Ryan and Brett are and have been for years. They’ve volunteered to help us learn while they’re here.”
Burke laughed lightly. “That’s a lot, Hud, but it’s sexy. I’ve thought about it with Joel. But we have so much going on, I don’t see how it would work.”
“That’s the thing, that can be part of it, I’m thinking. I give Theo a list of things he must do daily. Part of that will be caring for the home and farm. I want to keep the pigs, learn about them, and help Tucker and Dale with them. Theo’s got the business part of that already set and is great at it. One of his daily chores is work on the business.”
“You think it’s that simple?”
“Not at all,” I confessed with a breathy laugh, but the confession felt good. “I’m terrified I’ll fuck it up.”
“I don’t doubt you a second, Hud. Not a second. If you put your mind to it, you’ll get it done, but with Theo, he will be a challenge.”
“Yeah. I know. That’s part of the fun.”
Ryan insisted they pay for at least a one-night membership, and he did before they left. Brett confessed in the car, “We were paid for the dungeon, and my family has a trust for me, so I’m loaded.”
