“I’m trying hard. I am not saying I’ll always be like this. I hope that’s okay.”

“Yeah. It’s okay. Brat me some, or I might think aliens took over your body.”

“I live to obey, Master,” he cheeked. “I’ll brat you a lot. Just not with them here. I get called out too much with three of you in the house.”

“Hey! I’m not going to let you slide when they leave.”

“Oh, I know,” he said, nuzzling my neck. “But six eyes and ears are more than two of each.”

“Yeah, I’ll just have to watch and listen closer, hmm?”

Theo kissed my neck, got a hand under my shirt to rub over my chest, played with my fur, and then dropped the question. “Can I have the belt off for the night?”

The way I was being kissed, nuzzled, Theo sugaring me up, I couldn’t resist. “Yeah. Just for one night. It’s going back on in the morning.”

“So…can I come tonight? It’s been weeks!”

“It’s been days, fucking brat.”

“Master, please?”

“I’ll think about it. Though, I think we take the night off cooking too. Get dressed, and let’s go to the diner tonight, pick up some wine, maybe even some scotch, and have a real celebration.”

He jumped off my lap and bounced while he clapped. “Oh, God, a night out! A night off!” Then he deflated. “I don’t have a thing to wear!”

“I’ve given you things.”

“Nothing that matches. I’m telling you, your taste is…questionable.”

I moved to him and gripped his face. “Want to try that again?”

“You said, zombie!”

“I didn’t say be a prick.”

He relaxed in my hand and blew me a kiss. “Sorry. I’ve just been holding so much in!”

I missed the smartassed Theo, but that only went so far. “Tonight, just because we’re out of role doesn’t mean all the rules don’t apply. Polite, kind, respectful.”

“Even to waiters and any other help. I know. I promise.”

I kissed him solidly, then walked to the closet and pulled out a pair of expensive jeans and one of his silk shirts. “That’ll look great and light on the makeup, huh?”

“Why?”

“Listen, baby, I love your look, you know that, but this is a small town. We’re four gay men going out to dinner. Let’s not…make things glaring and have people looking at us. Ryan is just coming out of being in hiding like you were. He’s going to be jumpy.”

“Have you asked if he wants to even go?”

He was brilliant. “No. I’ll go do that; you get dressed.” Before I left, I grabbed him to give him a real kiss. “I’m sorry about the makeup thing. I’m not trying to dim your light in any way, baby.”

“I know. You’re thinking of Ryan, and I like that you like him so much.”

“Me too. Ryan’s turning into a good friend.”

I found him on the porch, talking to Dale. Dale waved at me as I came outside. “Dale, everything okay?”

“Just delivered the last of the smoked and cured pork to that fancy market in the city. I was gonna ask…can me and Tuck, maybe, take a day or two?”
