“Brett, if the pigs freeze, not only will that kill the business, but it’s fucking cruel!”

“Like I said. Maybe go look,” he repeated, then left us to follow Theo.

Ryan sighed heavily, smacking my arm. “I think we fucked up. Let’s go see.”

The sinking feeling he was right started, and as we approached the pens, I knew they were right. I was an idiot.

The shelter doors were down, and the pigs were all inside, the heaters sending off a friendly wave of heat. The stalls had plenty of hay, food, and water, with the troughs heated too. The new piglets and their mothers had soft blankets in the stalls and an extra portion of food beside their water trough.

“I’m…fuck.”

“No, you’re fucked. With the ED at the end. Theo’s gonna be so pissed.”

“What do I do? What does a fucking Master do when he fucks up?”

Ryan laughed as he said, “I never have.”

Cocking my head at him and smirking, I stared until he relented.

“Well, I rarely did because it’s bad. When Brett thought I was dead, we had to keep it that way. The family took him to the dungeon to see me and to ask if he’d help run the place. Well, I swear, the minute he saw me, sure, he was pleased I was alive, but man, I’ve never seen anyone so pissed off at finding out his boyfriend was alive after he was thought dead!”

“What did you do?”

“I apologized. Sincerely, but then I got back with the program and let Theo know I’m still in charge. I fucked up, I acknowledge that, but I’m still the damn Master.”

I sensed it and said, “You’re fucking lying.”

The man with the pale green eyes turned the exact shade of them everywhere as he smiled. “Well, it was touch and go there for a while. He had a chance to say no to the whole dungeon. I thought for sure he would. That was a lot to ask to be with someone. But…he wanted me more than he wanted his freedom. I know it was a lot to trade. That’s why I’d do anything for him now.

“This house in the country? That’s not me. It’s never been me, and I thought it wasn’t for Brett either, but seeing this place and the peace he has, the freedom this place gives him and me both…well, it’s changed us. I want to thank you and Theo for that.”

I felt so close to him then. Callahan could be more than a friend, but I had to push that thought away. That wasn’t in the cards. “Ryan, help me out, huh? When we return, I need to apologize but then move back into things, or Theo will lose all his progress. I know him. He’ll take this blow like I don’t trust him.”

“No worries. What the hell is in the crate?”

“It just might be the ticket to saving my ass and my relationship.”

“Let’s go see it then.”

Chapter Twenty

I stormed into the house, slamming the door, and Theo wasn’t there. The theatrics were for nothing. Brett poked his head out of the kitchen, whispering, “He’s in the bedroom…fuming.”

“Thank you, Brett,” I said as I continued my heavy-footed movement up the stairs and down the hall the short way to the bedroom.

I pushed it open, then lost all my anger. Theo was on the bed, black streaks down both cheeks from his tears. “Theo…”

“I didn’t deserve that. I deserve much of the ridicule and snide shit, but I didn’t deserve that.”

I went to him and yanked him off the bed and into my arms, holding him as his body went limp. “I’m sorry. I should have never assumed.”

“No, you shouldn’t have! I know how important that kind of thing is! Do you think I’d let them or any living creature freeze?”

My arms only got tighter around him, then I took a seat, and he pushed away from me. Damn, he was mad.

“I was very wrong, and I admit that. Now, I’m going to repurchase your affection and forgiveness.”

Theo sniffed hard and glanced over at me skeptically. “I can’t be bought!”
