He mutters something under his breath and pulls out his mobile. He shoots off a quick text before stuffing it back in his pocket and turning away from me to look out the window.

A minute later, there’s a knock at the door and Michael enters. He looks back and forth between us, and when neither of us speaks, he eventually smiles at me stiffly. “Come with me. I’ll drop you home.”

I glare at the back of Anton’s head. “That’s it? You’re sending me home with your driver?”

“Go home, Piper.” His voice is firm and disinterested, which only furthers my rage.

“I thought we had a deal?” I ask, trying anything to get him to look at me. It doesn’t work.

“The deal is off the table. It won’t work.” He turns around but ignores me and looks to Michael. “Please collect Melissa after you’ve dropped Piper home. We’re moving to plan B.”

ANTON

Plan B. I don’t have a plan B. I didn’t have a plan A until Piper danced on my club stage. Nevertheless, Michael nods like he knows exactly what I’m talking about and tries to usher Piper towards the door. “Who the hell is Melissa?” she asks. Melissa is a hook-up. One that I’ve not seen in months, which reminds me, I must text Michael and make sure he doesn’t actually go and collect her. She’s the last thing I need.

I roll my eyes and head for the door. Piper can’t follow simple instructions, so she’s no use to me and the sooner she gets the message, the better. I’ll find another way to get to Hulk.

She follows me along the hallway. “I don’t understand why you’re so mad with me when I was the one who got attacked.”

“You were attacked because you can’t follow simple instructions.” I continue to walk away, taking long strides in the hope she’ll get bored and let Michael escort her home.

“You didn’t tell me not to leave the room, those words did not leave you mouth.”

“But you knew not to leave,” I say coldly. The fact she almost got hurt chills me. How can I keep her safe in my world when she doesn’t listen? Those idiots thought she was roleplaying, pretending she wasn’t up for it. They’d have forced themselves upon her and it would have been my fault. My life is too chaotic to involve a woman.

She continues to follow me down the stairs. I go through the door behind the reception desk, which leads down to the soundproof basement. It’s just one of the many soundproof rooms I have. “Where are you going?” she asks.

I stop at the foot of the stairs and flick the light on. The room is suddenly bathed in fluorescent white light and in the centre sits Ivan. He holds a high membership at this club. One that allows him access to our roleplay rooms. But with that comes rules, and by groping Piper in that office today, he broke them because he knows he should’ve had a code word for that type of roleplay. His eyes fix on me, and I see the fear that he’s trying so hard to hide. He’s a cockroach. Any man who gets off by forcing women, roleplay or not, is a cockroach.

My business partner in this club, Andrew, would argue it’s better he does it here with willing women than out on the streets, but I don’t agree.

“Ivan, we meet again.” I smile, and he stands. He thinks that by hiding his fear, I’ll be impressed, but I’m not. It pisses me off more. “Sit down.” The order is firm, and he adheres without argument. “Apologise to my guest.”

“Why was she allowed to wander around like that, Anton?” he asks, suddenly sounding angry. I land the first punch squarely on his chiselled jaw, and he hisses, shaking his head.

I lean close to his ear. “You’re forgetting your manners, Ivan,” I whisper. I brush off his jacket and firmly press down on his shoulders. “Now, let’s try again. Apologise to my guest.”

Piper squares her shoulders and folds her arms over her chest. She doesn’t look scared, and I wonder how much violence she’s previously been exposed to in that damn club.

“I’m sorry,” mumbles Ivan.

“It’s pretty sick, yah know,” says Piper, and I stifle my smirk as she steps closer. I like her balls. “You get a kick out of forcing a woman. You should really see someone about that.”

Ivan shrugs off my hands from his shoulders. “Fuck you,” he spits. “I’m not going to sit here and let some bitch talk down to me. Cunts like you are good for nothing but fucking. Trust me, I smell it a mile off.”

My hands are squeezing his neck before I’m even aware that I’ve reacted. He clutches desperately at my hands, trying to free himself. “Sweetheart, I felt your erection against my backside, and trust me when I say it would take more than that tiny dick to get me off.” I watch in awe as Piper turns and heads up the stairs. I’m so busy staring after her that I don’t notice Ivan is now slumped and I’m holding him up by his neck. He’s passed out, so I drop him to the floor and pull out my handkerchief to wipe my hands. I step over him and follow after Piper, reaching her as she’s passing the reception desk.

“Stop,” I bark, but she continues towards the exit. I have an urge to keep her here and, without thinking, I scoop her up and throw her over my shoulder. She yelps, hitting me on the back, but I take no notice as I head for the stairs. The receptionist stares in surprise. My staff never see me behave like this, especially not with a woman. I take the stairs two at a time and stride towards my office, where I shove the door open, letting it slam back against the wall. Michael looks up from behind my desk and smirks. He rises to his feet and, as he passes to leave, he pats me on the shoulder.

I lock the door and place Piper on her feet. Her hair covers her face in messy strands, and as I push my hands in it to clear it away, I feel it tangle around my fingers. Her tanned cheeks are flushed, and her breathing is rapid, much like my own. I back her to the wall, and she gasps. It’s such a small intake of breath, but I hear it and know without a doubt that I want to make her gasp more.

I tentatively move my face closer and, when she doesn’t immediately shove me away, I allow my lips to brush hers. I tug gently on the roots of her hair, and when she gasps again, I take advantage of her open mouth and take the kiss deeper, swiping my tongue against hers in a hungry battle. The control I always have is slipping away, and it’s replaced with a burning desire to have her right now. Our mouths begin to mash together, like we’re desperately searching for something that will keep this feeling alive. I don’t understand the reaction that my body’s having to her, but I’m reluctant to let it go.

My hands move of their own accord, traveling hungrily down her body. Gripping the hem of her top, I tug it up and she puts her hands in the air, allowing me to remove it. Our mouths clash together again, and she feels her way to the buttons of my crisp white shirt. Once she gets it open, she pushes her hands up my stomach and over my chest. Her nails carefully rake over my taut skin, and it sends shivers down my spine. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know this is taking the plan too far, too soon. But I can’t stop.

I’m addicted.
