Fury rises up in me when I picture that. Red stains my vision and I swear I want to punch somebody.
“Whoa!” Dixie backs up and puts her hands up. “Ididn’t touch him!”
I have to work hard to pull myself back under control.
I finally grit my teeth and sit back in my chair, my arms crossed.
“Whew! Girl, if just the thought that someone down the road kissed the man, you’ve got it bad.”
“I do not.”
“If I was any closer, I think you would have punched me. Just because.”
I huff but down inside, I’m not sure. The rage that ripped through me was enough to incinerate the few brain cells that I think are still working since he kissed me.
That’s a bit scary.
“Anyway. What happened after he kissed you?”
“We started fighting and I left. Then I went and made sure that damn paperwork was finally taken care of. We did the closing a fucking lifetime ago. It shouldn’t have taken this long to file it.”
“And then?”
“I drove it out to his place to make sure that he didn’t have to go looking for me anymore!”
“Right.” She eyes me with a side-eye that makes me cringe.
“What?”
“Couldn’t that have waited until today?”
“I don’t know!” I wail. “He’s been all up in my business and I just wanted him to go away.”
She nods her head and purses her lips. “Really? I just kinda think you wanted to see him alone.”
“No!”
“So what happened?”
“He touched me.”
Her eyes widen and she gasps. “Ooh! Where?”
“On my arm.”
She makes a face. “Well, whatever. And then?”
“Then he told me that he can’t let me go and he’s coming for me. Crazy, huh?”
Her smirk has me wincing. “What!”
“He wants you. And you obviously want him. So what are you gonna do about it?”
“Not a damn thing. Just stay the hell away from him.”
“I’m still curious what he’s doing out on that land!”
I glare at her. “You’re not going to get my curiosity up with that!”
