“She’ll have access to the business lounge too,” adds Sylvia.

We are all living it, though I am the only one who is going.

They want more gossip of course. The fact that the cool guy from Hawaii is Ethan Knight, my CEO has transformed them into an annoying interview panel.

Sylvia falls to the floor laughing, when I tell them about my gaff with the boss, “Went to Hawaii to get pleasure.”

“You are such a dork!” squeals Edith.

Yes, yes, I am. Something happens to me when I am near that man.

Most of the weekend is spent shopping for travel clothes and luggage. I pick up a few formal shirts for meetings, some dark jeans. Edith forces me to buy a dark pink top.

“It’s the beautiful month of May, Brooke, you can’t be the most boring woman in Portugal. This is the splash of pink you’ll need.”

THE PLANE SEATING

BROOKE

Iam thankfully seated in the last seat in the business section of the plane. Along with her our 3-person team, we are traveling with other Business Analysts from Elysian, one of whom is Pam, a Business Analyst from the marketing department. We have exchanged pleasantries and now sip delicious red wine. I can get used to this.

“So how do you like working at Elysian?” She says affably.

“It’s good so far. I wasn’t expecting to travel so soon, but it’s exciting,” I laugh.

“So, Jake is on your team, right?” I am glad she wants to learn about our team. I am also glad that the ungrateful, snobbish, arrogant, and irresistibly handsome CEO is sitting six rows ahead of us. This will be a pleasant 7-hour flight without his judgmental tone and snobbery.

“Yeah, Jake and Jessica are great to work with. We work well together and have fun. We just prototyped some products.”

“Wow, that’s great. So does Jake sit across from you?”

“Yeah, you know we have our own shared space. It’s cool.”

“I bet that’s fun, he is so funny!”

“Yeah, he has a good sense of humor. Jessica is our team lead, and she is awesome. I know it’s only been a few months, but I feel like she is like my sister.”

“Do you go out with Jake for lunch, or does he like to bring his own food?”

Okay this is getting a bit weird.

“Sorry, so how do you know Jake?”

“Uh, we ran into each other, you know at the coffee machine. It’s so funny how we met because we both wanted the same last remaining bag of hot chocolate powder. And he was like, let’s share it, so we did.”

Okay great story. She is cute, and obviously interested in Jake.

I really don’t mind her going on about Jake. In fact, I make a mental note to tell Jake when we land in Portugal, that he has a good chance with this Business Analyst. I adjust my neck pillow and push my head back into it.

“Business Class is so great, right?” I say to her laughing.

“Oh yeah, Jake told me it’s going to be great!”

“Sunny Portugal here we come,” I say, raising my glass.

But she is looking across from me with a smile reaching ear to ear. “Jake! What are you doing here?”

And sure enough, our hot chocolate hero is hovering all over my seat. “Hey Pam, I just thought I’d drop by to say hello. So, hello.”
