You silly man, you were speaking to a group of women who were going nuts over your good looks and sexy voice. But Am I going to tell him that? No.

“They are scared of you,” I blurt out.

“Why?”

“I mean you are very tall…”

“Adjusting that would be a painful surgery.” He says this with a straight, serious face.

At first, I didn’t get that he was joking. Then it hits me. I burst out laughing. Must be that dry English humor.

His face lights up, those long-lined dimples that I had seen in another world are back.

That crazy sense of humor, which had seduced me in Hawaii. That carefree, hair blowing in the island breeze, opened buttons, that same strong chest that was so accessible. When I had touched and rubbed my hands on his warm chest in those steaming bubbling waters. Now caged behind his buttoned up crisp shirt. Okay concentrate Brooke. You are sitting with the Ethan Knight, C.E.O.

“Anything else?” He asks, smiling.

“Oh, I can go on.” I say looking at his face for a reaction.

“I am your captive audience,” he says, bringing all kinds of delicious images to mind.

“Okay, you seem like you only want to talk about business. So, people generally don’t want to make small talk with you.”

“That I am glad about. I hate small talk.”

I honestly don’t blame him. He is too intense, too ambitious, too driven for all of that.

“Miss Banner, this is helpful. it’s important for me that I remove any blocks that prevent others from speaking with me.”

Oh wow. I have a list here for you, you crazy handsome snobbish hunk.

“Well, whenever we talk to you, it’s an appointment. Always critical and related to a goal.”

“Point taken,” he says nodding and appears to be making a mental list. I am feeling more and more confident that we are having this breakthrough.

“Can I share something with you, that you promise to keep a secret.” Maybe it’s the wine, or the fact that we have ascended above the clouds, on our way to some exotic country. I am not sure what, but I am feeling like I can tell him things. For the first time.

“So, our team lead…”

“Yes, Jessica, good worker,” he says. “I hired her by the way,” he says proudly.

“Well, that Mr. Knight was a brilliant decision.”

He nods and clasps both hands above his head in a cute gesture of victory. He has an old-world charm that I am finding very hard to resist. I quickly start talking before I fall into his spell.

“So, Jake keeps score every time Jessica says ‘know what I mean’because she has this habit.

“Does she?” He seems disappointed that he has not noticed.

“Yeah, she does. So, Jake keeps score. He draws a sad face in a journal every time she does it. And she is always asking Jake the score because she wants to kick the habit.”

He seems genuinely amused.

“But that’s what I love about Jessica, she is open about her flaws, her quirks. Makes us feel like we can tell her anything.”

He shakes his head. “Of course, we all have those ticks.”

“I hope you won’t tell her Mr. Knight. She would be so embarrassed; she would kill me!”
