“Good God Pricilla. You make it sound so damn HR!”
“I have to protect you, Ethan. Go on.”
I recall how I felt insanely liberated after our time in Alentejo. I felt I could share secrets with her. “Like an idiot, I take her to the meeting with Foster.”
“You did what!”
“Yeah, I thought it would be a good test. You know bare the soul and all that. I was high on her. Anyway, you know how that went, I called you from Korrina about that.”
“How did Brooke handle it?”
“She actually complimented him on his chef.”
Pricilla laughs. “Brave girl. I knew it.”
“Excuse me, I am trying to tell you that she betrayed me.”
“Yes, go on Ethan.”
“I showed her the garage.”
“Of course, you had to show off Ethan. You acted like a damn teenager.”
“Well, the point is that I showed her everything. I told her how we have fought with the Fosters for hundreds of years. Since the Magna Carta.”
“No one cares about the Magna Carta Ethan. Not here in America.”
“Point is that I found her coming out of the Foster Design Company office this morning! She was naturally surprised to see me. I caught her! I told her right there, that she had betrayed me. She accused me of jumping to conclusions. I mean what other explanation can there be Pricilla? I had specifically told her that Foster is the enemy! I took her to his damn yacht! She makes a fool out of me the first Monday she’s back!”
“That makes no bloody sense Ethan. Why would Brooke work herself to the bone to create a prototype for you, and then in Portugal I believe you gave the team the last 3 days off as private time?”
“I did.”
“Well, she kept calling our main office and even me to complete untied ends. She also requested information that she could use to further develop your line of green products. I now think she was using those last 3 days to catch up with work. She was making up for time spent with you Ethan. And why would a spy, someone who intends to betray you, be so diligent, work so hard for your benefit?”
“Oh?”
“Yes,Ohyou schmuck!” Pricilla is getting angry but not at Brooke. This conversation is not going as planned. Pricilla continues with a suggestion that I should have thought about “And Ethan, you also know we have a mole at the Foster Design Company. Can we confirm what Brooke was doing there?”
“This is crazy, why did that not occur to me? I was actually… you know…”
“What?”
“I was going to give her a love letter of sorts. You know me, I don’t write love letters.”
“You barely write emails.”
“I was actually going to give her that love letter early this morning. I simply followed the same route that she takes to our office and that’s how I ran into her… because that damn Foster Design office is on the way to us.”
“Ethan.”
“Yes Pricilla.”
“You are an idiot.”
“Why is your insult making me feel better?”
“Hmm wonder why?” Pricilla says already taking a note to call our mole at Foster.
