Hendrix grimaces. "She explains it all better than me. It doesn't matter. My point is just because our society tells me I should hunt down an omega and form a pack and start pumping out the next generation of omegas and alphas, doesn't mean that's what I actually want. It doesn't mean my true personality is dominating and overbearing."

"Then what do you want?" I ask.

He smiles. "I want to teach kids how to play basketball, I want to meet someone regardless of their designation and when I feel that spark, I want to pursue it without giving a shit what the Omega Council thinks. Mostly, I want to read heist novels and enjoy that I've finally found friends who like to read them too."

Ryder and I chuckle like Hendrix clearly wants us to, his discomfort clear. But I love his passion and I'm fascinated with everything he said. I'll have to track down Aurora and pick her brain. It doesn't really affect me as much as it does the other designations, but it's still interesting.

Even though I'm just a beta, that information could change everything for everyone. I've long wished for a world where things were more equal between the designations. I want Lexie to inherit a better world than the one she's getting regardless of what she ends up as.

"How have we known each other for so long and heist novels never came up?" Ryder asks Hendrix.

"I have no idea. I feel like I talk about them all the time." Hendrix shoots me a grin. "Maybe there's a reason it happened now."

Seriously, what is with this town?

It's like I've fallen down the rabbit hole and ended up someone completely different and magical. I keep waiting to stumble across the dark side, the seedy underbelly, the hidden experiments proving this is all too good to be true.

I want to ask Ryder what he wants too, but this conversation has gotten too deep, too fast, and Hendrix has already done such a good job of getting us back on track to what this morning is supposed to be. It's a bit early for baring our souls.

And if I keep making them bare theirs, they'll want me to bare mine in return.

I'm nowhere near ready for that.

And I’m not sure I ever will be.

Chapter Eight

Moira

––––––––

I'M COMPLETELY OVERWHELMEDwith how busy the studio is the first weeks I'm open. I barely have time to do anything else outside of the constant parties, events, and drop-ins constantly coming through the doors.

It's amazing and more than I ever thought possible, the constant activity quickly starting to rebuild my savings, helping me breathe again, the nerves and fears I made a mistake disappearing.

Lexie is thriving here, learning so much at school and enjoying what little basketball she's tried so far, only a couple practices in. Hendrix is proving to be a great coach and Ryder a great teacher. We’re both completely in love with Neverwhere.
