“I see,” Tanner says with a nod.

At that moment, Jackson appears, handing Skyler a beer.

“Oh, thank god. I really need this,” Skyler says, gratefully taking the beer and downing several large gulps.

“I thought you said Jackson abandoned you?”:

Jackson rolls his eyes. “Drama queen. I went to get drinks.”

“At the worst moment in the history of moments,” Skyler whines. “Jax, I had to listen to…vaginashit. And stuff about…” He gives a full body shiver and I brace myself for what could possibly be worse in Skyler’s mind that “vagina shit.” Finally, he spits it out like there’s a bad taste in his mouth. “Ovulation.”

Jackson, Tanner, and I all stare at him, completely bewildered.

“Why isthatso traumatizing for you?” I can’t help asking.

Skyler’s expression makes him look like he’s swallowed an entire lemon. “Because it’s weird and gross. I don’t want to know what goes on with all that. Or what day it’s happening on. Or what happens…when it happens.”

“You need more women in your life, buddy,” Tanner says with a wry grin. “I think you should definitely go work for Leona.”

“Oh my god, Tanner just called me ‘buddy’,” Skyler stage whispers to Jackson, looking star-struck.

Jackson rolls his eyes and grabs Skyler by the elbow, pulling him away.

“I’m pretty sure he’s, like, half in love with you,” I say with a chuckle.

“He’s not really my type,” Tanner says, gazing at me with affection in his eyes.

I quirk a brow at him. “He would have been not that long ago. Think of all the trouble you’d have saved yourself if you’d gone home with Skyler that night instead of me.”

Tanner just shakes his head. “I can only think about what I would have missed.”

I smile and step closer so I can brush my lips to his.

“Oh, great. So this is actually happening,” a grumbling voice says from behind us. Looks like my brother’s arrived.

CHAPTER32

TANNER

Ireluctantly unlatch my lips from Deacon’s at the sound of his brother’s voice and turn to face a glowering Sullivan Stapleton, who’s holding hands with a guy I can only assume is the boyfriend he recently reconciled with—Deacon’s roommate, Drew. I have to admit, the guy is not at all what I was expecting; I haven’t had a chance to meet him yet—no doubt because he’s been too busy rolling around with Sullivan—but I wouldn’t have picked a scruffy, tattooed mechanic as Stapleton’s type at all. I guess you just never know people.

I ignore the scowl directed my way and hold my hand out to Drew. “Hey, you must be Drew. It’s good to finally meet you,” I say with a smile. “Deacon and the others have told me a lot about you.”

His brows shoot up in question. “The others?”

I feel an arm being casually slung over my shoulders and it doesn’t take much guesswork to know Skyler’s returned from wherever Jackson dragged him off to.

“Tanner’s taken over your spot for video game night, since you were busy doing…you know.” He gestures between Drew and Sullivan, as though we needed further clarification. “We teamed up for NBA and kickedaassss!”

“Skyler, it wasonegame,” Deacon says with an eye roll.

“Grimsay, I had no idea you were so into sport,” Sullivan says with a smirk. “Maybe you should join us for rugby next year.”

“Hell no,” Deacon growls. “He’s not playing rugby. He’s too pretty to get hurt.”

“Whoa—and I’m not?” Skyler demands. “Tanner, tell him I’m pretty.”

“Skyler, stop flirting with Tanner before I make you veryun-pretty.”
