She turned her head, chuckling, and our mouths met.

“You wanted to say something—?” I asked against her lips.

“Nothing.” She slipped a hand around my nape, urging me closer. “It’s nothing.”

I’d been half-hard ever since I’d seen her in that red dress, but I felt no hurry. I slid my tongue over her soft, slicked-up lips. Even when they opened, I didn’t put my tongue inside.

She wasn’t in a rush, either. She gave me teasing, shallow kisses—my mouth, my jaw, my cheek. Her other hand came to my chest and nuzzled the hollow of my shoulder.

I gathered her closer, somehow both aroused and content. Being with her like this—holding her—filled an emptiness inside me. A hole in my soul that I hadn’t even known existed.

I stroked her inner thigh through the fishnet. Still not in a hurry; just needing to touch her.

She dropped her head back, staring up at the crescent moon. Her chest heaved. “Sometimes I wish I’d never become a slayer.”

I drew a small circle on her knee. “Why?”

She huffed a laugh and raised her head. “I don’t—” She made a pained sound. “Don’t listen to me. I’m in a mood.”

But I was curious now; frankly, I couldn’t picture her doing anything else. “What would you have done instead?”

“That’s the thing—I don’t know. It’s the family business. And when I showed…an aptitude for it, it was basically a done deal.”

“An aptitude?”

She shook her head. “It’s a slayer thing.”

That made me even more curious. But I’d promised not to push her, and if I did, she’d probably just lie anyway and our fragile truce would be broken.

“But I’m glad now,” she said without looking at me. “Because if I hadn’t, I never would’ve met you.”

My heart squeezed. Then my whole chest constricted. I felt like I was suffocating.

I released her thigh and massaged my sternum with the heel of my hand, trying to make this painful, needy emotion go away. “Let’s go inside.” I stood up, drawing her to her feet.

The rose fell to the ground. She ignored it to cup my face.

“I mean it,” she said and touched her lips to mine.

I stilled. Emotion flooded me, an overwhelming wave of want and need that was impossible to beat back.

I closed my arms around her supple body and kissed her back, a little too hard. She moaned low in her throat and melted into me, rubbing herself against my dick. I cupped her ass and hitched her higher so I could grind myself against her mound while I ate at her mouth.

She wrapped strong thighs around me and kissed me back with an enthusiasm that made me forget everything but getting inside her. Her hands were all over my body. Touching my shoulders, sliding under my shirt to stroke my waist.

I walked with her toward my apartment.

She tore her mouth from mine. “Wait. My rose—.”

“I’ll buy you a truckload of roses.” I reached around her to open the door. “Now kiss me.”

She laughed into my eyes and obeyed. I kicked the door shut behind us and carried her into the bedroom.

I set her on the edge of the bed and still kissing her, knelt between her legs. I framed her face in my hands, licking into her mouth like she was ambrosia and I a starving man.

It wasn’t enough. I needed more. I ached to sink into her, to satisfy this powerful, never-ending craving.

I dragged my mouth from hers and slid my hands down her legs, removing her Docs. She placed her hands on the mattress and watched, legs open enough for me to tell that she wasn’t wearing panties—and the fishnets didn’t have a crotch, either.
