My heart clenched and my chin wobbled before he leaned in to claim another kiss. I was breathless by the time he pulled away, core burning with need for him.

"I have time before I need to catch the bus home. Take me to your place."

The heat in his eyes was an answer to mine. It took him two seconds to cross the car and climb into his seat, pulling out into traffic without a wasted moment. I ignored the way he sped across town to his building, holding on to the bubble of happiness that filled me.

I knew there were going to be complications. We would have to find a way to work around the obstacles that would stand in our path, but as I looked at him sitting beside me, I knew it would be worth it in the end. Leo's determination would allow nothing else. It was a rock I could lean on when the fear crept in and made me doubt.

We barely made it out of the elevator before Leo was stripping me. His jacket hit the floor, followed by my blouse and slacks. His shirt disappeared as I shimmied down my panties, but both of us were in too much of a rush to wait any longer.

Leo bent me over the back of the couch, filling me as I scrambled for a hold on the cushions. His grip on my hips was rough, but exactly what I needed.

He was what I needed.

But would I get to keep him?

Chapter Seventeen

Leo

Iended up having to drive Cadence most of the way home for her to make it by her usual time. She was still flushed and smiling, stealing little kisses as she opened the door of my car to walk the last block to her house since she wouldn’t let me drive her any closer.

Her smile faltered when she looked down at the ring on her finger.

“Leo, I…”

She trailed off as she looked up to meet my eyes. I could see how torn she was, and I knew what she was going to say before the words came out of her mouth.

“I can’t wear this inside. They might notice, and I haven’t had a chance to talk to them yet.”

Something in my chest deflated, but I kept my expression the same and gave her a nod.

“I understand.”

She slipped the ring from her finger, hesitating before she held it out to me.

“Keep it safe for me?”

I let a smile slide across my face as I claimed it from her.

“Guess I’ll get to propose again every night, then celebrate over and over when you accept.”

Her eyes narrowed but she couldn’t stop the smile that answered me. I wished it stopped the pain.

Reaching out to bury my fingers in her hair, I pulled her closer for another deep kiss, leaving us both panting and needy again by the time I released her.

“I have to go.”

I nodded at her words, releasing her despite the desire to keep her close.

“I’ll see you soon. Be safe.”

She smiled again as she stood and shut the door. Giving a little wave, she turned and trotted down the road. I watched until she turned the corner before crawling the car closer, waiting to be sure she made it all the way to her house before I pulled away.

Despite the disappointment that she was still hiding our relationship from her family, I was still grinning by the time I reached the club. I hadn’t popped the question like I’d planned, but it was a relief to have her say yes. I’d make up the lack of romance the first chance I got.

The club wasn’t open yet but there were still employees floating around getting the place ready for the night. The weekend might be our busiest time, but there were always people willing to party and drink in a city this size. Especially at the biggest club around.

I stood, leaning on the rail overlooking the main floor. I had things I should have been taking care of in my office, but all I could think about was Cadence.
