“Presents. Mrs. Weathers, Bowen, and I always exchanged a gift each, and you always sent something but… I’ve never had so many to open. Ever.”

His arms tightened around me and he kissed the side of my neck.

I got a lambskin leather jacket in a vibrant purple from Casper, as well as diamond earrings, a Coach purse, and a spa package at a place I’d never heard of before. Knowing Casper, it was probably the best of the best, and it looked like we would be going to Colorado at some point since that was the spa’s location.

Casper was still and quiet. I glanced at him and saw that he held one of the gifts I’d picked out. My heart nearly stalled as I second-guessed myself.

Casper’s thumb rubbed across the bottom of the silver frame. I’d had our names and wedding date engraved at the bottom, and the only picture from our wedding was behind the glass. The only reason I even had it was thanks to the priest who had married us. His secretary had taken a picture and forwarded a few copies to the house after I’d settled into my new home. I’d carried them with me when Casper made me leave.

“I’m sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have…” I bit my lip not sure how to fix the mess I’d made of things.

“It’s perfect,” he said. Then he stood and carried it over to the mantle, and placed it in the center.

Casper came back and held me, kissing my cheek, neck and then my lips. We cuddled and watched the kids play, then everyone migrated to the kitchen to eat. It was easily the best day I’d ever had, and definitely my best Christmas.

“Next year we’ll have one of our own,” Casper said before taking a bite of his food.

“One of what?” I asked, my brow furrowed.

“Baby.” He winked. “Practice makes perfect. Isn’t that what they say?”

“Casper.” I cast a frantic look at the others. “Not the time or place.”

He leaned in closer, his lips brushing my ear. “Then my naughty elf can show me how nice she is later… after everyone goes to bed.”

My cheeks warmed but I gave him a smile. I didn’t know what had changed to make this incredible man fall in love with me, but I’d never been happier.

“Merry Christmas, Santa,” I whispered.

“Merry Christmas… wife.”
