I know what he is going to say. He is going to tell me I have a responsibility. He is going to tell me I need to marry Fiona to save our clan. My father will burn the clan alive if he has to. “You have to marry Fiona. At least for a little while. Our father will kill Ava. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has pending orders.”
“You are right. I don’t want to hear it.”
“At least tell our father you will marry Fiona. Buy yourself some time until you have a plan.”
“Fuck, Oliver.” I hit the steering wheel.
“I know. But you will have a fighting chance if you do. You have to think with your head. Be strategic.” He is right. If I go in blazing hot there is no way I will know what my father would do. But what is the alternative?
“What do you have in mind?”
“You won’t like it.” I eye him. “You can’t go to her. I’m sure our father has people watching your every move. I give you my word. I will find her.”
“She is my world.”
“And this is the only way you can keep her alive.”
I can’t believe my father would put me in this position. His need for power is greater than his care for flesh and blood. I can’t go back to the man I was before Ava. I am not a man who is ruled by emotions. But I can’t imagine my life without her. I won’t. If you would have told me that night in the restaurant I was meeting the woman who was born to be by my side, I would have laughed. She is infuriating, sexy, beautiful, smart, and mine. I will bring her home where she belongs. I won’t let anyone come between us. If it is war my father wants then war it is. Ava is my future not my past.
