"Am I?"

"Fiona, please don't do this. Tell me what you want." Aisling is now crying.

"For you to die. You don't understand how many people have tried and failed. But I won't fail. Your time is up." I walk closer to her, only the bed between us. "I won't say it again. Hand her over." I tell her.

"No." I move to the side opposite where she is holding Aisling.

"I will shoot. Trust me when I tell you I will not miss." But she doesn’t hand Aisling over. I pull the trigger, and the vase beside her shatters.

"Don't do this." Aisling is now full-blown crying.

"Shut her up." There is a knock at the door. "You better say everything is fine."

"Ms. O'Brien, is everything ok?" I point the gun at Aisling this time.

"Yes. Just dropped a vase. Everything is fine. It scared Aisling."

"Would you like some help?" I look at her.

"No. Everything is fine. The housekeeper is here."

"Good job. Now set her down if you want her to live."

"You don't want to hurt her."

"See, the thing is I don't really give a shit about Aisling. She was a means to an end. She is a useless handbag now. If you don't want her to die, you know what to do." I am going to say more when the window behind her shatters. She drops forward with Aisling in her hands.

"What the fuck?" I ask myself.

The fucking gunman did his job. Suddenly the room door opens. The men blaze in. Before I can react, I feel the first bullet making me fall to my knees. I try shooting at them, but I find myself weak.

"Ms. O’Brien," one of them calls.

"Get Aisling." The other tells him.

I go to shoot again but miss. The guy shoots me two more times. I fall to my back.

"Call 9-1-1." The man orders. My eyes are closed, but somehow, I still can hear everything.

"What the fuck is going on in here?" I hear Viktor say. "Ava," he screams.

"She is alive but losing a lot of blood," someone says. I hear footsteps. I open my eyes, and Viktor is standing over me.

"I warned you." The next thing I know, he is pulling a gun and shooting at me.

Sneak Peek to Absolution

"How am I supposed to deal with this? You abandoned me without any regard."

"It's not that simple Olly."

"Don't fucking call me that. You don't even know me."

"But I do. I am your mother. I carried you for nine months."

"Then you left me. You didn't care about me." I am pacing trying not to lose my cool. This woman thinks she can just come here and tell me lies.
