“What do you need? What can I do?” Max asks.

I don’t know what I need. On the one hand, what I need is Viktor. I need his strong arms holding me. I need his warmth. Him telling me that everything is going to be fine. Seeing him just reminds me I love him more now than ever. Why can’t I forget him? Why can’t I rip the love I feel from inside of me? It would be so much easier. I can’t stay here. He will come back for me. He will walk away from his family without a thought now that he knows that I’m pregnant. I can’t let him not when there is so much standing on the balance.

“I need to leave.” I finally say.

“Where?” Lisa asks.

“Anywhere. He will be back. I have to think about what is best. He will only think about what he wants, damn the consequences.” I add.

“I have somewhere you can go,” Max says.

“Where?” I turn to him.

“I have a cabin up north. It’s quiet. I go there when I need to get away.”

“I couldn’t impose,” I tell him.

“You aren’t. I’m offering.” He smiles.“You can go for as long as you need.” He takes my hand and dries a tear with the other.“This isn’t good for your son. The stress Viktor brings to your life isn’t healthy. You have to think about what is best for you and your son.” He smiles. Somehow it's comforting.

“Regardless of Viktor, from what I saw of her, Fiona isn't going to go away. She's who you need to guard against.” Lisa adds. I told Lisa about Fiona. I didn’t get into the details. All she knows is the man I love had to marry another woman.

“We can go. If you don’t like it, I’ll help you find somewhere else.” I look at Max. I’m due in two months and they are right. I don’t need the stress and Fiona is not going to stand around and do nothing.

“Ok,” I finally say.

“We can leave whenever you want.”

“Now, if it's ok. I don’t want to give him a chance to come back and find me.” I confess.

“I’ll help you pack,” Lisa says. I stand and walk to the bedroom.“It’s going to be ok.” She tries to comfort me.

“I don’t know anymore.” I take a breath.“If it’s ok with you, I want to keep my things and bedroom here. I’ll continue to cover my half of the expenses.”

“Of course, you can keep your things here. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Thanks.” I grab a carry-on and pack the essentials.

A million thoughts crossing my mind. How did Viktor find out? Did Tina tell him? She wouldn’t. I know Oliver didn’t. If Oliver did, Viktor would have been here a long time ago. But I guess it doesn’t matter. The cat is out of the bag. Viktor knows I’m pregnant.

“Do you need help with anything?” Max asks from my bedroom door.

“No. I’m done.” I zip the carry-on.

“Let me.” He grabs it before I can put it down on the floor.

“Thanks. Lisa, please don’t tell anyone where I am going.”

“I don’t exactly know where you are going,” she laughs.

“Right. Good point.” I laugh too.

“But don’t worry. My lips are sealed. I just want you to take care of yourself and the baby,” she smiles.

“I will.” I give her a quick hug, not wanting to stay any longer, and risk Viktor walking through the door.

“Call or text when you reach your destination.”

“I will, promise.”
