Two hours later…

After two hours of being hovered over by several people, my hair and makeup are done. When I glance in the mirror, even I have to admit I look good. My makeup is soft, almost natural. My hair is in a romantic updo, surrounded by tiny baby’s breath flowers. You would think I stepped out of a magazine.

“You’re so beautiful, sweetheart.” Anita chimes. “I have something borrowed if you want to use it?”

“Always.” When she hands me a small box, I open it. It is a pearl hair clip. “It’s lovely.”

“It will go great with the dress.” As she winks, the hairdresser takes it out and clips it in.

“Moment of truth. Let’s get your dress on.” Tina claps her hands together in excitement.

“You don’t give the orders,” I tease, my brows waggling.

“It’s my duty as your maid of honor.”

I shake my head. “You are taking your job a little too seriously.”

“Chop, chop.” She claps her hands again, moving me along.

I take off my silk robe. Everything is becoming surreal. Tina and a stylist hold the dress for me while I slip into it. Once it is on, the stylist zips and buttons the dress. That’s when Tina’s eyes start to water.

“Don’t you cry. If you do, I’ll start crying too,” I tell Tina.

“You had better not. Your makeup is flawless.” Tina dries her eyes.

“All done. Would you like to see the final product?” the stylist asks.

“Yes,” we agree in sync.

I stare at the mirror that was brought over this morning. This moment feels magical. No words can describe what I’m seeing. The off-white open-back mermaid boho dress is pure perfection. Its long sleeves have mesh polka dots covering them. It is also adorned with hand-stitched embroidery, pearls, lace, and beads. To complete the look, there’s a soft belt tied in a bow. I feel like Catherine, Princess of Wales.

“My goodness, you’re breathtaking. My mother would be so honored that you’re wearing her dress,” Anita saunters beside me. Her eyes are watering.

“Don’t cry. Please.”

“It’s hard not to,” Anita admits.

I thank her for her compliment with a smile before shifting my focus from her watering eyes. “Where are my kids?”

“Ready to leave,” Tina replies promptly, making me laugh.

“They truly are their father’s children. Forever impatient.”

“I’ll start heading out. Words can’t describe how happy I am for you and Viktor. No one deserves it more than you both.” Anita carefully kisses my cheeks. “I’ll see you at the church,” Anita adds.

Tina waits for her to leave before moving to stand next to me. “I don’t even know what to say.” Tina murmurs.

“Nothing.” I tell her. She helps me into flats since I’ll put my heels on at the church.

“Wow,” Oliver walks into my bedroom. “Ava. Beautiful falls short.” He smiles.

Color floods my cheeks. “Thank you.”

“Are you ready to go?”

“I’ve never been more ready.”
