“I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”

I’d never seen Viktor be so vulnerable. As ruthless and guarded as he is, I saw real fear in his eyes.

“Ready?” he asks, glancing up at me after tying my sneakers.

“I love you.”

He looks at me curiously, shocked by my sudden declaration of love. “Are you alright?”

I nod. “I’m also a lucky woman. Let’s go home.”

“Let’s go home,” he repeats before guiding me out.

An hour slips away before we pull into the mansion. The scene out front is insane. There are men everywhere—both outside and inside the gates, which have now been replaced with taller ones. It’s like Fort Knox, except better guarded.

I wouldn’t expect anything less. Viktor will do anything to protect us, and I’m grateful. It gives me exactly what I need right now—a feeling of safety at home with my kids.

ChapterSix

Ava

Ihave never been happier to be home. Even though I’d rather be at the penthouse, I have to respect that, in this case, my husband knows best.

My husband. I am still not used to saying that. I also can’t help but smile when I recall our impromptu wedding. Viktor kept his word, and two days after I could stand and slowly stroll, he had an officiant come to the hospital.

“You know this is insane, right?” Oliver tells me, his voice brittle with laughter.

“Why? Viktor and I were already getting married, and you were walking me down the aisle.” My excitement can’t be hidden, despite where we are.

“I’m not exactly walking you down the aisle, more like wheeling you.” His laughter forces me to look at him.

“Someone thinks they’re funny. How’d you pull this off, anyway?” I ask curiously.

“I called the priest who was marrying you guys and told him about the change of venue.”

“And the chapel?”

“No one was using it right now. Why not take advantage?” He winks at me. His happiness is obvious.

“I would have been perfectly happy being married in the room.”

“Sure, you were. Because every bride wants to get married with beeping life support machines in the background.” He mocks me with laughter. “Here we are.” Marco and another man are standing in front of the chapel doors. By the time we reach them, they have the doors open.

“Oliver,” I gush in awe. The chapel is filled with white roses. Both of my children are here, along with Tina, Lisa, Anita, Ray, Angus and even Beiste. “How?” I glance back at Oliver.

“I can’t take any of the credit. The groom deserves it all if you can believe it.”

I drink in the image of the man he refers to while Oliver wheels me toward him. Viktor’s eyes are watery, his emotions all over the place. I feel the same. This is the moment we’d been waiting for.

“I told you to bring her five minutes ago,” Viktor grumbles, taking a step toward me. “I’ll take it from here. Are you ready?” Viktor asks as he pushes me toward the officiant.

“Evermore,” I tell him, smiling.

Despite being in the hospital and wearing a hospital gown, it was the perfect wedding. Everyone we love was there, which was the only thing I truly wanted. Viktor and I vowed to always be there for one another.

Viktor isn’t just the love of my life—he is also my best friend. I hit the jackpot. Not many women can say that, but I genuinely can. Our wedding wasn’t about poofy dresses and a tiered cake. It was about us—our family.
