He nods. “The bullet went through her stomach. She’s lost a lot of blood. But as I said, someone will update you soon.”

“Fuck,” I exclaim. “Just save my wife.Please.” The last word sounds foreign coming from my mouth.

As he turns to leave, I dial Oliver.

“I’m right here,” I hear from behind me.

My panic surges. “Why the fuck are you here? Where are my kids?”

“They’re at an undisclosed location. Brenda, Grace, and Mom are with them. I have a dozen men protecting them.”

I’m relieved but still in shock. “How the fuck did this happen?”

Oliver lets out a deep breath before disclosing, “Details are sketchy, but it wasn’t Fiona’s gun that shot Ava.”

I stop pacing and stare at him quizzically.

“Marco called from the hotel. Next to the shattered window was a scaffold and a harness. We think it might have been used by the person who shot Ava. There was no window cleaning scheduled for today. Marco is looking at surveillance as we speak. We should know more soon,” he explains. “Oh, and the detectives are on their way to speak with you.”

“I don’t give a fuck about the detectives.” My words reverberate around the waiting room. “This has Cillian and my father written all over it. Put a team together.” I stare him dead in the eyes. “This ends tonight.”

Spotting the storm brewing in my eyes, he suggests, “Take a breath. Right now, Ava needs you. We also need to gather intel before we make any decisions.”

I flex my fingers as I step toward him, furious he dared to tell me to calm down.

My stance doesn’t bother him. “You know I’m right. Let’s just wait and see what Marco finds before we move,” he tells me calmly.

“If she dies…” I refuse to finish my sentence.

I lift my eyes to Oliver when he adds, “Ava is a fighter. She’ll pull through. She always does.”

“You better be right.” I rub the back of my neck while taking a moment to think.

How could this have happened? Besides the people who were already at the hotel, no one knew we were getting married. There’s a leak—someone is talking.

“There’s a leak,” I say out loud this time.

Oliver jerks up his chin. “I know. It’s the only logical explanation.”

“I want it found and eliminated.” I clench my fists, and my veins throb at my temples.

“Angus is working that angle.”

“I want everyone involved dead,” I order.

“Trust me, whoever is involved will be, but not until we know who ordered this,” replies Oliver, cracking his knuckles. “But let me worry about that. Your job is to focus on Ava. She needs you to keep your shit together.”

“Oliver—”

“She’ll make it,” Oliver states before squeezing my shoulder.

For the first time in my life, I curse being born a Manarch. I should have pulled the trigger at the restaurant when my father threatened Ava’s life the first time. I should have killed Cillian when he was outside Manarch Industries. My woman and my reason to breathe might die because I didn’t kill our biggest threats when I had the chance.

I won’t make that mistake again.

I’m going to kill them all.
