He planned the whole thing out but wanted to keep everyone in the dark as a special treat.

Knowing Aaron, we would go to the beach for relaxation or somewhere tropical. Since we didn't need passports, I knew it was at least somewhere within the United States, which was good since I didn't have one.

As I packed, I pulled out my cutest clothes and the new ones my mom had bought for me at the mall. I felt content as I packed until my phone rang with a slow song, signaling my mother was calling.

I took a deep breath before answering the phone. We hadn't talked since I told Mom Aaron and I were together.

"Hello, Mother," I said in a light and airy voice.

"Erica, I'm so happy you answered. You left so abruptly the other night I was worried you wouldn't pick up the phone." My mother spoke with a bitter tone.

"Of course, I would answer you. I was just busy the other night. What's up?"

"Your father and I want to see you and Aaron before you leave for vacation tomorrow," my mother said, and I could hear my father agreeing with her in the background.

"Invite them to breakfast at the club tomorrow," my father's voice echoed through the phone.

"We are going to the club at 9 a.m. tomorrow for waffles; why don't you two join us?"

I wanted to say no, but if Aaron and I were going to play the parts of fake fiancés, we would have to eventually be together with my parents.

"I'll have to check and see if he's free," I said.

"Marvelous, just text me if it's a yes or a no. Hopefully, we'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye, mom. Bye, Dad," I said before we hung up.

I tossed my phone onto the bed and kicked my suitcase.

It was just my luck that my parents would want to see us tomorrow, but it would be a good test run. If we couldn't trick my parents, there was no way we would be fooling Aaron's family on an entire vacation.

Picking up my phone, I shot Aaron a text and explained everything. He said he was down with it since he would return to town tonight to stay at his family's home. We planned for him to stop by and pick me up tomorrow morning, and then we would head to the club together.

Aaron texted me once he was downstairs. I took one last look in the mirror, flattening my black dress and checking to ensure my hair was slicked back perfectly. I wanted to look good for him. We hadn't seen each other in person in a long time.

Hurriedly, I made my way down the steps, and my heart fluttered when I saw his red sports car waiting in the parking lot.

As I made my way towards his car, suitcase in hand, Aaron got out, and my heart stopped.

He wore gray dress pants, a white shirt, and a matching gray suit jacket. I licked my lips at the sight. His blonde hair was the longest I had ever seen, but it was slicked back like mine.

"E!" Aaron called out as I quickly approached him.

I shoved my suitcase to the side as we embraced each other.

The feeling of his arms around me was warm and strong. I melted into him as I smelled the minty bubble gum on his breath.

"I can't believe you are here," I whispered into his ear. "I missed you like crazy."

Aaron pulled back and held me at arm's length. His gaze looked me up and down, and I felt seen in a way I had never been before. It was like he was taking a photograph with his eyes, trying to commit me to memory.

"You look good, E. Your mom must be so proud of you," Aaron said in his deep voice.

The mention of my mom broke his spell on me, and I stepped out of his reach.

"Yeah, she is, especially now that I'm engaged."
