I took a moment to think, but I honestly had no idea. It could be anyone. I knew Aaron loved a good guessing game, but he knew that I hated guessing.

"Who?"

"Come on, guess."

"Aaron, you know I'm not going to guess. Just tell me," I said, throwing my hands up.

"Kate. Winslet." Aaron spoke with his pearly whites on display.

My mouth fell open. There was no way. That was huge news.

"Aaron, that is amazing. You've really made it!"

I was so proud of him. Having a movie with such a massive star in it would do wonders for his career. I couldn't wait to see the film to show my support for him.

"I know, right? I am beyond happy. The people on set even sang Happy Birthday to me today, and it has just been an amazing day."

"Any other birthday plans?"

"I am supposed to join my family on vacation in a few days. Otherwise, just talking to you and them today."

One thing I admired about Aaron was how close he was to his family. I couldn't even imagine taking a vacation with my parents. While I was an only child, Aaron had siblings. I had always wished my family was more extensive and closer, but oh well.

"That will be nice. I'm so happy for you," I said with a smile plastered on my face.

"Thanks, E. It means a lot."

Hearing him call me E stirred many emotions I never indulged in. It was his nickname for me, and while I heard it often, it always made me feel some way.

"No problem. That's what besties are for," I said, a smile on my face.

We talked for a bit longer, catching up before Aaron admitted that he had to go.

"I'm sorry this is rushed, but I must get going."

"Bye, Aaron. Enjoy your birthday," I said wholeheartedly. "Your gift should be waiting at your apartment."

"You didn't have to get me anything but thank you."

Aaron hung up, and I was overcome with a feeling of sadness. While he was off being a movie star, I was here not doing much but trying to break into the music industry. I was lucky that my commercial jingles were doing well, so I could survive off that income, plus my parents did help me out here and there if I needed it.

I also missed Aaron like crazy. The last time we saw each other was ages ago, and though I was really proud of him, I missed him even more. I hoped he enjoyed my gift. It came from the heart.

Chapter Three

Aaron

MyphonecallwithErica caused a smile that stuck to my lips as I got into my car and headed home to my apartment.

Talking with Erica always made my day, especially on my birthday. We had been friends for so long, it would have been sad not to have heard from her today.

Living in Hollywood was a whole other experience than I was used to, but I enjoyed my career. Working on movies was a dream, and the fact that Kate Winslet was on this job made everything feel even more dreamlike. It felt like just yesterday; I was at my high school graduation.

I arrived at my apartment on the fifth floor of a five-story building. It was a smaller apartment, but it was enough room for me. It had a full bathroom, a bedroom, another bathroom, and a small living room area. It also had a nice view and a big balcony. My neighbors were chill and quiet, so that was a huge plus.

I had lived in Hollywood for a few years, but the sight from my balcony still blew my mind.

Waiting outside my door was a medium-sized box. It was addressed to me by Erica. The box was your typical brown box, but it had colorful tape all around it, which was such an Erica thing to include.
