"The place should have plenty of room for all of your clothes, so I'm not too concerned about overpacking," I confessed.

"Hmm," I heard my dad hum.

"I'll hold you to that then," my mom said.

There was a brief pause before Scott spoke up again.

"Have you heard from Erica yet?" he asked.

I rubbed the nape of my neck at his question. I knew exactly why he was asking, and I didn't want to hear it today.

"Of course he has, haven't you, son?" My mother said.

"Yes, we just got off the phone about half an hour ago," I confessed.

"I'm sure you two had a lot to discuss, huh?" my brother said with a smirk.

"I don't know what you mean," I said back.

"Because you two are so hung up on each other."

I shook my head. While I did have a massive crush on Erica at one point in my life, that era was over. We both felt nothing but friendship for one another.

"That ship sailed years ago, Scott, and I wish you would stop bringing it up," I urged.

I hated it when he would allude to something between Erica and me, especially around our parents.

"Is something going on between you and Erica?" my father asked. "Because if so, you have our full support. We love Erica."

Rolling my eyes, I pulled the phone away from my face and groaned out loud. When would my family get the message that Erica and I were so not going to happen?

"Thanks, Dad, but Erica and I are just friends."

"If you say so," my mom said.

"I do," I said sternly.

We continued to talk about the trip and how the packing was going, but my mind was elsewhere.

With all the talk about Erica, I was starting to miss her dearly. I could invite her on our trip. I knew she wasn't currently working, but I had no clue if she could come on such short notice.

"Did Erica get you anything?" my dad asked.

We all knew that Erica went big on birthdays. Last year, she had gotten concert tickets for us.

"Yes, she got me a scrapbook and some tasty treats."

"She really is a keeper," my mom said. "Be sure to always treat her well."

"You can count on that," I urged.

Erica was my best friend, and I wanted her forever. I would never do anything to put our friendship at risk.

"Well, son, we just wanted to call and wish you a happy birthday. We'll see you in a few days," my dad hollered.

"Yeah, see you soon, love," my mom said.

"Love you guys," I responded with a yawn.
