She has to be pissed at me for just taking off without warning. Like I told Dixon, I should have at least told her where I was going.

But I couldn’t risk anyone stopping me. I was suffocating. I had to get out.

My eyes squint as I gaze at the horizon, and I make another note to buy some sunglasses because hell, the sun is so bright. It hurts my eyes.

And that’s when I see it—a spot of bright red on the blue water, a stark contrast.

It’s that ass, just bobbing between the waves. Like an apple.

For a moment, I visualize myself biting into those round, hard globes, sinking my teeth into his skin. It’s so jarring that I freeze, my entire body stuck in one position.

I don’t bite other guys’ asses. I don’t bite asses, period. That’s not polite. Terrible manners.

My grandmother would be horrified.

Shit, I must be jet-lagged. Maybe I’m more tired than I thought. It was a long-ass flight over here, and I’m clearly losing my mind.

Suddenly, Holden stands up in the shallow waves, water sluicing down his chest, and my mouth parts—just an inch, but there it goes. I watch with rapt attention as his hand moves through his hair, pushing the wet strands away from his face, his lean biceps flexing.

A strangled noise escapes me as he strides out of the water, the waves lapping at his thick thighs and then his toned calves, exposing more and more of him to me.

Oh god, why is he walking toward me? I should turn around, listen to Devon, and stay the fuck away, but my feet won’t move. I can’t fucking move.

“Hey, Chase,” Holden calls out with a wide smile, and I wonder how he knows my name. I scramble to remember if Devon told him, but can’t quite seem to conjure that moment up. My eyes were stuck on his ass, apparently, my brain not working right.

“What are you doing out here all alone?” he asks, coming to a stop right in front of me.

I snap my eyes up to meet his but no words come out of my mouth. I am paralyzed.

Holden chuckles and then pokes at my chest. He does it again when I still don’t respond. No, I just blink at him. Blink, blink. Like one of those creepy porcelain dolls that my sister used to play with.

“Are you having some kind of medical emergency?” he asks, cocking his head. “Normally people converse by asking and answering questions.”

“I’m, uh, I’m fine,” I manage to say, my voice rough like I’ve just woken up from a deep sleep.

“Hm, yes, yes you are,” he says with a smirk, his finger still resting on my chest. It trails slowly to my shoulder and then down my arm. Goosebumps erupt on my skin as he drags it down, down, down, until his finger hooks around one of mine.

“You have big hands, Chase,” he says, his blue eyes flashing up to meet mine. They’re the same color as the ocean behind him. “How about you come back to my place? Get out of the sun for a while,” he says, and I swallow. That sounds like a terrible, no-good idea.

“Just got out here,” I manage to say, and he shrugs.

“All that pale skin could burn. You have sunscreen?”

I blink at him. No, I don’t have sunscreen. Didn’t even think of that.

“My parents don’t believe in sunscreen,” I say, and Holden laughs loudly.

“Oh, really?”

He thinks I’m joking, but I’m not. I can’t make this shit up. My upbringing was…unconventional. Different. Why do you think I left?

“Eh, actually, I don’t think you’re joking, which is concerning,” he says and then shrugs. “You know what? Doesn’t matter. Come on. I’ll get you out of the sun and give you some of my sunscreen. Just don’t rub it on your dick. I don’t know if that’s safe.”

I choke a little at that. I’ve never considered rubbing sunscreen on my dick before. Usually, I just use my bare hand to jack off. I don’t even have lube. I’ve tried Crisco and hand lotion before though.

He pulls me forward, and I let him lead me back into the apartment complex with only his finger linked with mine. It’s like a leash tethering me to him.

I don’t know what the hell I’m doing or why I’m letting him pull me back inside. I blame it on being exhausted and emotionally wrung out. I can’t do anything but follow him up the stairs, my boots clunking up each step until I’m in his apartment.
