“Why?” she said, a smile on her face as she poured a drink for the customer beside me. “It’s kinda sexy to see them all riled up because of you. You should’ve known that they’d hunt you down and find you in town.”

“They were sleeping when I left!” I whisper-yelled, desperately trying to shrivel up so they wouldn’t see me.

All I’d wanted was one night of peace because I had gotten barely any time to myself since I had left Dad’s estate.

“Who’re you waiting for?” the guy next to me said, eyeing me like Jaroth had earlier.

The guy beside him threw us both a sultry smirk that all incubi had mastered. They might be part demon, but they didn’t stand a chance against four possessive wolves.

When he leaned closer to me and grazed his fingers against my knee, I swallowed hard and turned away, knowingthis wasn’t good. Not one bit. If he kept staring at me like that, then the guys would surely—

Darius grabbed the guy by his shirt collar and flung him across the room. To my surprise, everyone carried on like it was nobody’s business and like nothing had happened at all. I looked around, anywhere but at the four wolves who seemed like they wanted to kill someone. Even good-boy Gaian looked pissed.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Sina?” Calder said between gritted teeth.

“Getting away from your toxic, over—”

Before I could finish my sentence, Thayer grasped my jaw in his callous hand, and I found myself stopping mid-sentence. There was something psychotic in his strong hold, something that shut me right up.

“We’re not being toxic,” Calder said, like every toxic guy had ever said. “You haven’t fucking seen toxic and overbearing, Sina. Or else you would’ve been chained to my fucking bed since the moment you arrived in Durnbone.”

A heavy sigh escaped my lips, and I wanted to protest more, but I was getting damn tired after everything that had happened today. “I just needed some time away from you guys,” I said, slumping my shoulders. “I needed some girl time.”

“If you want some girl time, then Maxine can come over,” Calder said. “You’re not to leave the pack house unless someone goes with you. You don’t understand how dangerous it is in Durnbone, especially this late at night and with your father looking for you.”

While I wanted to ignore everything that he had said, I couldn’t. He was right.

Dad had already dragged me away from Durnbone once because he apparently didn’t like these four guys. That had been on my eighteenth birthday, too, when I could officially make decisions for myself. I didn’t put it past him to have guys searching Durnbone for me. He would try to take me away again.

But still, I needed some space.

“You’re being unreasonable,” I said, poking a finger into his chest.

I loved pushing his buttons and making him angry. Alphas hated being disrespected and defied, especially in public. So, if they wouldn’t let me out of their sight, that was exactly what I wanted to do until they did.

“You can’t leave us,” Gaian suddenly said, his voice hard but with some vulnerability in it. He pressed his lips together, the dim light making his green eyes look more menacing than the good-boy image he tried to keep alive.

Something darker lurked within him. Something feral.

After glancing over at Darius, then Thayer, I realized they all had that same worried expression suppressed under their anger. It meant something more to them that I had left without telling them where I was going, that I’d just disappeared without a trace.

“This is why,” Calder said, gripping my upper arm and dragging me toward the exit.

“Why what?”

“Why I want your belly swollen with our pups.”

I ripped my arm away from him and clenched my teeth. “You want me pregnant because of my father?” I shoved my hands against his chest, pushing him back against a table. “Is it because you don’t want him taking me away again or because you think you have something to prove to him?”

Rage flooded through me, making every single inch of my body hot. He didn’t want me to be pregnant because he wanted me or because I was his mate or anything like that. Calder wanted me pregnant to piss off my dad.

My hands balled into tight fists, and I flung one at him, suddenly overcome with so much aggression, almost comparable to a wolf. Before it could collide with his chest, Calder caught it in his larger palm and growled.

“You don’t know shit about what we went through when he took you away.”

“You don’t know shit about what I went through when he took me away,” I said.

He didn’t know how hard it had been for me to be away from them. When I had lived in Durnbone the first time, those four guys had been my escape from the hell that Dad forced me to walk through every moment of my life. I had been looking forward to the day that I turned eighteen because I was finally going to leave his house.
