I had four possessive assholes sitting at the bar, waiting for me. If he didn’t say something soon, they would come looking for me and find me with my ex-boyfriend. Then, theyreallywouldn’t let me out to Durnbone again.

“It’s about your father.”

“My father,” I whispered, mouth drying. “What about him?”

“Listen, I know that we’re not together, but what he did to you isn’t right.”

“Why do you care?” I asked, stepping to the side so I could walk by him. “You’re the incubus who fucking cheated on me. We were never going to work out, and you didn’t care while we were together. Don’t start now.”

“If you had told me, then I could’ve helped you. I didn’t know.”

While I wanted to snap at him some more, he was right. I hadn’t told him because I didn’t know how, just like I hadn’t told the entire story to the guys yet. How could I relive something like that over and over? It had taken so long to become numb to it. Hell, it had taken so long to understand that shit like that wasn’t normal.

That other women didn’t become paralyzed every night and have men rape them.

That other women weren’t used as science projects for their fathers.

That other women had rights.

I had been living without any since I had been a damn child. I hadn’t known any different until, one day, I found all of Dad’s shit, until I found the courage to escape for the night with Jaroth and finally understood that sex didn’t have to hurt me.

“I told you not to bring it up,” I said, the hurt flooding back.

“You need to talk about what happened to you,” he said, glancing around, then moving closer to me. Unlike his usual flirty self, he gently rested his hand on my shoulder. “It doesn’t have to be me. I just wanted to warn you that I heard he’s gathering soldiers in the north.”

My chest tightened. “What? How many? Do you know anything else?”

“I can’t be sure, but from what I’ve heard, his army is large and enhanced.”

“Enhanced … as in enhanced humans?” I asked, knowing the answer before I even asked the question.

Of course they were enhanced humans. It wouldn’t be any kind of monster that lived in Durnbone. They were humans like me, humans that … were more powerful than anyone thought.

All because of his experiments.

“I’m heading that way this weekend,” Jaroth said. “I’ll find out—”

Before he could finish his sentence, someone grabbed him by the back of the neck and hurled him across the pub.

Darius stood before me, his canines long and his eyes golden. “What the fuck are you doing with your ex-boyfriend, Pretty Bird?”

“Get in the fucking house,Pretty Bird,” Darius said, pushing me into the pack house behind my best friends and slamming the door behind us all. With blazing black eyes, he glared at me, pulling me closer, then growled into my ear, “What the fuck was that? Why the fuck were you with your ex?”

My eyes widened slightly, nipples hardening under my shirt. After that night in the woods, when my four masked best friends had run after me and devoured every inch of my body, everything was supposed to go back to normal. We weren’t supposed to do it a second time, or a third, or even a fourth, and none of us were supposed to catch feelings for each other.

But I was knee deep in feelings and heat.

And, gods, I wanted them to take me tonight. Hard.

“Let me go. I didn’t do anything,” I said, yanking myself out of his grip and backing up until I hit Thayer’s taut chest.

Thayer snatched the back of my neck, his claws almost piercing my skin. “You didn’t do anything?” he asked, pulling me back and against the wall, pinning me there. “You didn’t do fucking anything, huh?”
