“If she’s dead,he’s probably dissecting her,” Darius said.

“Can you all stop sayingif?!” Sina asked, throwing her hands into the air and shaking her head. “She’s dead, has been for years now. If she were alive …” She looked down at her feet. “If she were alive, then I would’ve known.”

“Would you have known, or would you feel guilty for not knowing and leaving?” Darius asked.

Sina pressed her lips into a tight line and pulled her gaze away, shaking her head again. “It doesn’t matter,” she whispered. “I left her there anyway.” After another pause, she looked back up. “Either way, if she’s not buried, I need to find her.”

I gritted my teeth at Thayer and Calder, pissed that they had marked her but I hadn’t yet. “You want us to raid his home to find Sina’s mom while that bastard wants to kill us?” I asked, eyeing how close Sina kept moving toward Thayer. She was grazing against his body, her fingers brushing against his knuckles almost subconsciously.

“Yes,” Thayer said. “Before Jaroth does.”

“Jaroth?” Sina asked. “What does he have to do with any of this?”

“He’s no good,” Calder snapped. “Forget him.”

“Would you like to tell me why?” Sina asked, tapping her foot. “He was supposed to be getting me information this weekend about my father’s whereabouts. We could use him to figure out where my father is.”

“He’s using you,” Thayer said. “He wants your power to ensure he becomes the next ruler of the demons.”

Sina scoffed. “He told me he didn’t even want to be ruler, but that his mother was pushing him to become one. He wouldn’t do some shit like that. He hates the demons and his powers most days.”

The more and more they talked about Sina’s ex, the more her marks seemed to glisten on her fragile neck, and the more I couldn’t tear my gaze away from them. Both sides of her throat were scarred for eternity.

I stared at Sina’s marked neck and held back a growl. She had been talking with us for the past half hour about what Thayer thought she was and the powers that she seemed to suddenly have. And while I tried to contribute to the conversation, I couldn’t hold back my anger.

All these years, I had been waiting for her. I had dreamed of marking her as my mate, of keeping her as my own. Now, she wore two marks that weren’t mine, and I couldn’t fucking stand it. I didn’t want to push her into doing something she didn’t want to do, but I didn’t know if I could hold up this act anymore.

This nice-guy persona.

The nice guy inside me had died the night I found out about Sina’s disappearance. The nice guy had been ripped to shreds and replaced with someone who cared, but someone who refused to lose his mate again, someone who would kill just as ruthlessly as Calder and Thayer.

I wasn’t normally a jealous guy. I tried not to be, but …

I ached to have my mark on her neck. She wore the others so fucking proudly, and I didn’t want her to walk around for another day without my mark peppered on her throat, scarredon her body.

Sina must’ve sensed something was wrong because she walked away from Thayer’s side and stepped right between Darius and me. When she brushed her leg against mine, I fucking lost it. But I wasn’t going to let Sina know how much my wolf fucking ached for her now.

She wouldn’t see me as the psycho jealous type, not yet.

I grimaced at Thayer and Calder. “Why don’t you guys leave?”

“Leave?” Calder growled. “The fuck you mean? We’re in the middle of a conversation.”

Inhaling sharply, Sina glanced over at me with furrowed brows. She stared at me for a few moments, as if she didn’t know what was going on through my head, but then she turned back to Thayer and Calder and nodded.

“I want to spend time with Darius and Gaian,” she said. “Alone for once.”

“But—” Calder started, teeth grinding.

“Alone,” Sina repeated.

If they didn’t leave, they’d both fight to the fucking death for her to spend the night with them, to get closer to them, to touch them, be with them, for them to be inside her. And we would get fucking no time with our mate.

Calder would say that he had control of himself, but we all knew fucking better.
