“Where’d you learn to play darts like that?”

“College.”

I’d never gone to college but who hasn’t heard about those wild campus parties. “You must have been one party animal.” A gorgeous girl like her would have been popular, surrounded by most of the guys in the room. Stands to reason, she shot pool and played darts with them in between doing other things.

She shifts slightly, the smile on her face growing sly. “Not really. I was in the American Dart League.”

They have a fucking league for everything, it seems!

“Now I was on the college billiards team, though,” Savannah continues, that sly smile growing wider.

I scrub a hand down my face. “Remind me never to play you for money for real.”

Shrugging, she reaches for another shot. “I don’t take advantage of people like that. I only play for fun.” Her eyes lock with mine and I try to work out if there’s a hidden meaning behind her words.

When her hand lands on my forearm and slowly works its way up my bicep, her fingers curling around it to give a gentle squeeze, my mouth goes dry.

Blaire comes back at that moment, her pretty features pinched and tense. She goes right to Savannah and tugs her away.

SAVANNAH

The night has been amazing. I could have kissed Blaire when she suggested we split up and she led Tom away to another pool table, leaving me and Jake alone. I owe her big-time.

Jake was quiet at first and I couldn’t help wondering if his blunt way of speaking was because he was shy. Catching his eyes on me throughout the night told me that he might be shy, but he still was a man who knew what he wanted.

His fiery gaze caused a pool of molten heat to stay low in my belly all evening. I was painfully conscious of the hard press of my nipples through my bra and the way my silken panties would whisper over my throbbing clit. The man had me dripping wet and hadn’t touched me once!

Finding out he was in his thirties threw me for a loop at first. The guy’s in amazing shape. I couldn’t keep my eyes off him every time he leaned over to take a shot, admiring the way his faded jeans molded to his tight ass and thick thighs. Watching his t-shirt stretch over his broad back and big biceps had a moan catching in my throat. And those huge, long-fingered hands of his? I wanted them running over my body in the worst way.

So, while I wasn’t expecting him to be as old as he is, it’s not a deal breaker. Not by a long shot.

After several hours of playing pool and darts and seeing he wasn’t going to make a move, I finally worked up the courage to touch him and express my interest- in case he really was clueless about my interest in him-when Blaire came back from her phone call and yanked me away.

“You’re the last person in the world I expected to be a cockblocker,” I tease before taking in the worried look on her pale face. My smile drops. “What’s wrong?”

“My mom.” She doesn’t say anything else, nor does she need to. Blaire’s mom has a serious gambling problem. And is always needing bailed out of trouble. My heart positively breaks for my friend, and I wrap my arms around her, pulling her in for a hug. Blaire hugs me back, hard, and we cling to each other for several minutes.

With a shuddering sigh that shakes through her slim frame, Blaire pulls back. “I’m so sorry to cut the night short-”

I wave my hand and cut her off. “Whatever. Don’t worry about it.”

But it’s obvious Blaire is worried. Gnawing at her lips, her green eyes flicker from me to move around the room. “You’re sure you’re going be okay? Maybe you should come with me, and I could drop you off.”

“I’m assuming your mom is where she normally is?”

Blaire’s shoulders slump in defeat and she nods. Her voice is little more than a whisper when she mutters, “yes.”

“And my place is nowhere near there. I’ll only slow you down.”

“I just feel like a bad friend to leave you here,” she sighs.

“You’re not. Go do what you need to do. I’ll call for a ride.”

Out of nowhere, Tom pipes up, “Jake can take her home.”

We both turn and glare at the tall, burly man that obviously has no sense of personal space or consideration for private conversations.
