Page 17 of Hauling Her In

I don’t think I just react.

One step is all it takes to have her within reach. My hands shoot out, cupping and angling her face, and then I claim her mouth. Sliding my tongue along her lips, with a sigh she opens to me, and I slip inside the warm heat of her mouth.

She tastes as good as she looks and in an instant I’m starving and unable to get enough. My fingers move along the smooth softness of her cheeks, before tunneling into the silky strands of her hair. A low moan escapes me as I work my thigh between her legs, shuffling her backwards. I feel the impact through her body when she bumps into a vehicle, and I press her up against the side of it, my arms going on either side of her head, caging her in.

Her hands flutter around my shirt, her fingers finally latching on to the sleeves and fisting the material there.

Dragging my lips from hers, I bury my nose in her hair, sucking in deep desperate breaths. Her taste is in my mouth and her scent swirls all around me. My heart is pounding in my chest, and I can feel her pulse going wild beneath my lips.

“Fuck dinner,” I mutter against her neck, giving it a fast lick. “Let’s go back to my place.”

She wiggles against me, and I press my pelvis harder against her, grinding my cock into her soft stomach. “Okay, in the truck it is.”

Her hands shove at my chest, and I regretfully move away from her neck, arching my upper body back so I can look at her. Her lips are plump and swollen, so well-kissed I can’t help smirking and diving down for another taste.

For a moment she allows it, and then she ducks under my arm and scurries a few steps away. She sweeps her hair back and smooths her hands along her dress, trying to hide any evidence of our mad make-out session.

Grinning, my eyes slide over her and linger on the hard points of her nipples poking through the dress. There’s no hiding those. I reach down and adjust my cock to a more comfortable position, no hiding this either.

“Dinner first,” she says primly, holding out her hand.

“Yes, ma’am.” I take her hand and together we walk back to the steakhouse’s entrance, ignoring the knowing looks a few people give us. She keeps her head high, only her cheeks turning pink, and my respect for her grows.

At the table we’re both quiet until after the server takes our order. Despite Savannah being the one to ask me out, I fully intend to pay and after seeing the prices, I’m glad I worked that extra shift.

The room is dimly lit, and yet Savannah glows with her golden blonde hair, creamy skin, and bright blue eyes. I can’t take my eyes off her. The truth is, I don’t want to.

Swallowing hard, I reach for my glass of water. I’m in over my head here. Time for reality to clear a few things up for us both.

“I was in prison for seven years for robbery.”

Savannah freezes, her fingers poised over her glass. Her hand drops and slides under the table out of view.

I wonder if she’s fingering her phone and thinking about making a break for it. It’s one thing to joke over the phone, it’s another when faced with cold hard facts.

Yet my princess surprises me. Looking me right in the eye, she leans forward and asks, “What did you steal?”

“A game console and five hundred dollars cash.”

Her fine eyebrows shoot up. “And you got seven years for that?”

“How long should we have gotten?” I fire back. “A felony is a felony. I’m just damn thankful none of us were stupid enough to have any weapons on us. If we had, we’d still be in prison.”

Some of the color has left Savannah’s rosy cheeks. My gut clenches and yet I force myself to continue. “The house belonged to a friend’s ex-roommate. We were going in there to get his property back.” I shake my head, remembering how fucking stupid and trusting I was back then. Not even old enough to legally drink, yet thinking I knew everything. “Turns out nothing in there belonged to the friend and he forgot to mention the silent alarm.”

The appetizer arrives and sits there between us, as surely as the invisible wall now separating Savannah and me. I hate this a million times over. I’m not proud of my past, but I gotta be honest with her.

If this was a casual hookup like the other night, I wouldn’t be telling her half this shit. I’m not sure what’s between us and it wasn’t a lie when I told her I don’t do relationships. And I sure as hell don’t normally have dates where I have to dress up and fork over half my pay for a single meal.

This is different. She’s different.

And it confuses the hell out of me.

CHAPTER NINE

SAVANNAH

Sitting across from Jake, I try to shift without it being noticeable. My thong is so wet I’m afraid it’s going to leave a damp spot on my dress. That wild kiss in the parking lot left me hot and bothered. I have no idea how I found the willpower to insist on dinner first.
