“I want you here tonight.” He glanced at Gracie. “Both of you, but if you aren’t comfortable…”

I quickly shook my head. “No, it’s fine. I’m just anxious. This is our firstofficialevent.”

Official because tonight we were openly choosing to allow the world a peek into our lives.

Red Carpet.

Cameras.

Paparazzi.

He leaned over me and pressed a kiss to my temple. “Let me do the heavy lifting. You just be beautiful.”

“So I’m just your trophy wife?”

His hand lifted and fingers brushed over the diamond band that I wore. It was worth more than I could imagine but not as identifiable as a single solitaire which most chose to represent their unions.

Only a small group knew that Jaasir and I were married. We’d had a private ceremony that happened on a lovely fall day, bright and early on a Saturday morning.

It was beautiful and more importantly shared between those that loved us. Kaliq stood by his brother, Val stood by me, and a handful of our family supported us while we made a commitment to love each other for eternity.

Gracie was right between us, while Jaasir made a promise to be the father she could count on without reservation. I cried the entire day. Val and Del seemed at ease knowing that I had finally found a place where I truly belonged.

Speaking of, this woman had to be in my head. She could sense when my thoughts shifted to her, good or bad.

I glanced at my phone as it illuminated from my lap, grinning at Val’s name appearing on the screen.

Jaasir tossed his chin. “Get it. I’m sure she wants to give you a pep talk about tonight.”

“I don’t need it. You just gave me one.”

He kissed my cheek. “Mine will be mild in comparison.”

I lifted the device and smiled through a greeting.

“Hey.”

“Hey to you.”

“Tonight’s the night, right?”

I smirked and lifted my eyes to Jaasir’s. “Yep, we’re in the car on our way there now.”

“Ahhh shit. Is my man with you? Send me pics of his little young ass. I know he looks good.”

I scrunched my face. “He’s not with us. He’s coming later with hisgirlfriend. Who is not you, Val.”

She always taunted me about Kaliq but I knew it was only to pluck my nerves. They flirted each time they were around each other but that was all it was.

“Fuck buddy. Not girlfriend. He’s not the committing type.

No, he wasn’t. Jaasir said Kaliq was making up for lost time and now that he was in a better head space, producing music and settling into his new life, he was allowed to spread his wings.

Translation – sleep with as many women as he wanted as long as he strapped up.

“He’s definitely not but he’s happy so I’ll consider that a win.”

“Little young ass. He’ll get tired and want to settle down at some point. You nervous about tonight?”
