“Let’s go.” I eased my arm from around Cadence’s waist, slid my palm against hers, and intertwined our fingers.

Without thought, I lifted her hand to my mouth and kissed the ring on her finger. A habit I’d picked up since the day I’d put it there. A reminder that she and Gracie would always be in my life as long as I did my part as a father and a husband and you had better believe I was ten toes down. The two of them made me a better man so they received the best I had to offer.

All that I had to offer.

“Hey, did you see that?”

“She’s wearing a ring.”

“He kissed her ring finger.”

“Sol, are you and Cadenceengaged?”

“Are youmarried?”

Microphones were thrust in our direction and questions fired like missiles. I didn’t say a word. My security flanked us, front and back, and we moved inside.

The minute we cleared the chaos, I handed Gracie over to Stevens who was assigned to her. He was a scary muthafucker and Gracie was about the only person who could make him smile.

“Give us a minute please,” I tossed out and both men nodded while I stepped away with Cadence.

“My bad about that?” I loosely held her hand, brushing my fingers over her ring.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m surprised this was the first time anyone noticed.”

“Yeah, me too. Nosy muthafuckers stay on point about every little detail that don’t have shit to do with them,” I mumbled and she pulled her hand from mine, placing her hands on my cheeks and leaning into my chest to deliver me a kiss.

Our moment was intended to be brief but that wasn’t good enough for me. I hooked my arm around her back and eased my tongue past her lips until it found hers.

Damn, I love this woman.

“Are you going to apologize for that too?” She grinned after I eased back and she brushed her thumb over my lips.

“Hell no.” My smile settled with ease. “I’ll never apologize for kissing my wife. That’s my duty but I will apologize for outing intimate details about our lives that we should have the right to keep private. They don’t need to know the promises we make to each other but I don’t give a damn about them knowing that you’re mine. Makes my job easier.”

“And whatjobis that?”

“Keeping dumb ass niggas from feeling like they can step to you.”

“You do realize a marriage holds more weight than a public display of affection.”

She arched a brow and I shrugged. “I’ll tell the world. I’m proud as fuck that you have my last name. I’m just trying to enjoy the moment privately before the world decides they have a right to give their opinions on the moves we make as a family.”

“Opinions don’t matter.”

“Nah, they don’t but your peace does and I promised to be your safe space.” I placed a kiss to her forehead and pointed to where my team was. “Let me hit this bathroom and then we can find our seats. Stay with them.”

“I’ll be fine.” She rolledher eyes and I narrowed mine.

“Ay, I mean it.”

“I know and I’ll still be fine.” She grinned and I watched as she stepped to them.

I tossed my chin and turned in the opposite direction, bending the corner toward the bathrooms. I only made it a few feet before a hand grabbed my arm. I looked down to find honey vanilla skin and deep red nails.

“Hey.” Her voice and eyes were timid.

“’Sup, Journee…”
