“Never really gets better even though they say it does.”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I guess I’d better get going.”

“Dinner date, right?” She flashed a smile, extending a hand, which I frowned at. “You really trying to shake my hand like I’m some random ass stranger, like we didn’t just spend the entire day chilling together.”

“Regardless of whether or not we spent the day together, I don’t know any more about you than I did before we left this morning, so technically you are a random ass stranger.”

I chuckled, nodding. She was right. Nothing we talked about the entire day was personal. We didn’t necessarily talk at all.

Most of the time was spent with me watching her getting lost in a world that existed through the lens of her camera but that was enough to know that she was something worth holding on to.

“Still, I deserve more than a handshake.” Not giving her a chance to deny me, I grabbed her arm and pulled her into my body. When my arms closed around hers, it confirmed everything I was already thinking.

Perfection.

“Thank you for letting me tag along today,” I murmured into the curve of her neck, enjoying the light scent of mango that lingered on her skin.

She tensed and eased away from me. “Don’t thank me just yet. Wait until you see the bill. My time is high dollar.”

“Fuck.” I chuckled. “That’s cool. It will be worth every penny.”

She lifted a brow. “Don’t say that or I might actually be persuaded to send you one.” She turned toward her car, pausing once her hand was on the door. “Not sure how long you’ll be here since you refuse to tell me anything that matters, but maybe I’ll see you around.”

“Yeah, maybe.”

I stood looking like a damn fool, watching as she slid into her car, waving as she pulled away. Eventually I snapped out of it and climbed in my Jeep to do the same.

As I pulled out of the space where I’d parked I dug my phone from my pocket and called Kaliq to see what he wanted for dinner. I decided it would be easier to just grab us something while I was out than it would be to drag him out the house.

“I’m fine,” Kaliq answered, sounding like he was completely over me.

“Good to know but I was calling to see if you ate yet?”

“Earlier, you can bring me something. Where you going?”

“Usual.”

“Oh word, yeah, let me get a burger. Wait make it two and get the seasoned fries not the plain ones.”

I grinned at how much he loved their food. I really couldn’t say shit because I did too. “Bet, I got you.”

After ending the call I made the short drive to our usual spot, taking a call from Drew just as I was parking.

“You got news?”

“Nothing you want to hear, but yeah.”

“Shit, what now?”

“Somebody leaked a video and it’s not helping your case.”

“Video of what?” I frowned knowing it could have been anything.

“That night at the studio, it clearly shows you beating the shit out of Sheets but there’s no audio and it cut right to the alteration. It doesn’t show where he grabbed you and threw the first punch.”

“Fuck, how much worse can this get?” My head sank into the headrest while my eyes closed.
