“I knownow. I didn’t back then.” He looked away again. “I just… I was messed up, Sol. Sheets used that. He kept bringing it up. Getting me to do things for him.”

“The pills…”

“Yeah. Said he couldn’t be attached. He had to be careful but I could get away with it and if anything went down, he would make sure to clean it up.”

“He fucking lied. I knew something wasn’t right with the situation. You could have told me and if not me, then you could have gone to Drew. Anybody would have been better than trusting that snake muthafucker. Why didn’t you come to me?”

“Because he said he’d tip the blogs off with the story. He had text messages between us of me buying the pills.”

“Fuck, Liq. If that’s what he has he would never tell anyone because it would incriminate him too.”

“I never considered any of that. The only thing I was thinking about was not making things worse for you.”

“So why are you telling me now?”

“I planned on telling you before now but Drew kept saying he could fix this. We’re still here which means he can’t. Now the thing with Cadence and her kid. It’s just all kinda fucked up but you can get Sheets to back down now that you know everything. He’s just as guilty and I don’t care if anyone knows what I did. Mom, the pills, shit let ’em come for me. I can take it. If you don’t have to worry about Sheets then you can figure out things with Cadence. If I’m not in the way that’s one less problem you have.”

He was trying to save me when I should have been the one saving him.

“One problem at a time. Let’s deal with what’s going on with you. The rest can wait.”

He laughed dryly but owned the look of confidence. “What’s going on with me can wait. I told you everything. There are no more secrets. Nothing hanging over my head anymore. I feel like I can breathe and whatever happens, whatever the consequences are, I’m ready for them.”

“Ain’t shit happening to you. That’s my word.”

“You can’t make that promise.”

“I can. I just did.”

He nodded tightly. “Either way, without me, he can’t touch you.”

“It doesn’t change what happened with us.”

I’d beat that nigga bad. It was on camera and we still didn’t have access to the entire thing to prove that it wasn’t unprovoked.

In a court of law I’d assaulted him. If no one spoke up to say otherwise then I could do time if he pushed this.

“He’s still on the same shit though.”

“What do you mean?”

“Using people to buy pills.”

“You?”

“No, he tried. He called me, acting crazy, saying shit like I better make that happen for him. I told him I was done but I gave him a connect.”

“When was this?”

“A few days ago.”

Shit. How much is he keeping from me?

“And you gave him a connect?”

“Yeah, Crew.”

“Okay I’mma figure something out but you stay out of it. If Sheets reaches out to you, don’t respond. Let me handle him.”
