“Oh okay, well let me know if you end up coming home.” I smile. We hug before saying goodbye and heading in opposite directions outside of Grand Central.

There’s a limo waiting for her while I grab a cab and head to Dylan’s apartment. It’s only a five minute drive but it is rush hour so five minutes turns into forty five and I wonder if it would’ve been quicker for me to walk. Eventually, I give up on the cab and walk the last three blocks to her apartment. It isn’t worth staying in traffic for no reason. Besides it is a nice crisp autumn day. The air is nice and I won’t be all sweaty by the time I got to her apartment.

“Hey, what are you doing here?” Dylan asks after she buzzes me into her apartment. She isn’t ready yet, still dressed in her clothes from work.

“I was hoping to talk about something quick before our, night out.” I smile.

“Oh, sure. Come on in.” She invites me in and I take off my shoes, placing them by the front door.

“So, I wanted to talk to you about the winter break I have coming up.”

“Oh, for school? Sure, what’s going on?” She smiles, looking relieved. I guess she probably went to the worst case scenario with me and thought I was coming over to end this.

“I have four weeks where I can’t stay at my house by school. So I didn’t know if you needed me to stay in the city for our arrangement or I was able to go home for a few weeks.”

“What do you want to do?”

“W-what?” I am surprised by her question.

“I don’t want to control you. So why don’t you tell me which you prefer and we can work around it?” she says, smiling.

“Oh, well I’d like to stay in the city but I don’t think I can find a place to rent for the month.”

“I can take care of that,” Dylan says with a wave of her hand like it’s no big deal.

“How?”

“Well, you’re welcome to stay here or I can rent you a hotel room for a few weeks.”

“You’d want me to stay here?” I ask, surprised.

“You seem surprised,” she says with a laugh. “I enjoy your company a lot, Isabella. I wouldn’t mind you staying here as long as we could maintain boundaries.”

“Of course.” I nod.

“I have a spare bedroom you can stay in, I’ll have an extra key made for you and you can move your stuff in anytime you’d like,” Dylan says as if it’s not a big life commitment we are making together. I guess to her, it isn’t.

“O-okay.” I nod.

“Are you okay waiting here? I have to get ready and then we can go out.” She smiles.

“Sure.”

She heads into her bedroom and closes the door behind her. I take a seat on her couch and wait, scrolling on my phone until she comes out. When she does, she’s wearing a black pencil skirt and a low cut flowy pink blouse. It’s just low enough to give a tease of her cleavage and I gulp, I don’t know why I am looking but I can’t help myself.

“Ready?” She smiles and I nod. I know Dylan is beautiful but lately, the more I get to know her, the more beautiful she’s become. Like suddenly I notice more about her and I can’t ignore it. Like the way she laughs is infectious, or the way she holds my hand and it just seems to fit perfectly with mine.

“I made a reservation at a new burger place downtown, I hope that’s okay.”

“Yeah, I like burgers.” I nod.

“And they have these crazy ass milkshakes. I haven’t tried them but my friend Lucy recommended it, according to her kid they are to die for.” She laughs.

“That sounds amazing, I’ll definitely take the word of a kid when it comes to milkshakes,” I tease.

“Are you okay taking the subway?” she asks as we walk out of her building.

“Sure.” I have my metro card at all times just in case.
