Isabella moved in this week and although it’s only been two nights with her there, I’m afraid for when she has to move out in a few weeks. It’s a temporary situation that I want all too well to be forever. Or at least for a very, very long time. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before, thinking I would end up alone like my parents, cursed. But the more I get to know Isabella and the more I spend time with her, the more I want to make her mine for real.

“Are you okay?” Isabella asks, pulling me from my thoughts.

“I was just admiring your tattoos, they look so lovely with this dress.” I smile. She is wearing a strapless black cocktail dress that fits her body perfectly with her breasts on display. They are a bit of a tease tonight but I will focus on her tattoos and how fresh they look on her olive skin.

“I bought it purposely to show them off, I hope that’s okay.” She smiles.

“Of course, never be afraid to show yourself off, especially with me,” I reassure her, squeezing her hand lightly.

“Is your boss here tonight? I haven’t seen him,” Isabella asks, and I look around the room, I haven’t seen him either for that matter.

“He’s supposed to be…” I pause. “There he is.” I point across the room to where my young boss, who was originally a brunette, has dyed his hair blonde.

“Oh my gosh.” Isabella squeals and covers her mouth.

“We’ll have to avoid him tonight because there’s no way I could take him seriously with that kind of hair change,” I admit.

“I agree.”

“I’m glad Lucy and your friend are getting along, Lucy deserves to have someone who makes her happy.”

“So does Morgan, it’s been a long time since she’s actually dated anyone special.”

“Maybe it was the perfect match.”

“Like us?” she says with a hint of joking.

“Oh yes.” I roll my eyes. But in the back of my mind I can’t help but wish she was serious.

We make the most of this party, this time dancing the night away. Isabella is a better dancer than she lets on and matches my energy on the dance floor. We hold each other during the slow songs, we dance and laugh together during the more upbeat ones. Lucy and Morgan join us at one point, coming in from the hallway looking flustered. If I didn’t know any better I’d say they were fooling around somewhere. But before I can ask, they’ve taken off for the night and my attention is back on Isabella.

“Can we get a drink?” I ask, and Isabella nods. Walking over to the open bar, I run into a few colleagues and we make small talk while Isabella grabs us the drinks. I’m not sure what it is, but it tastes delicious and sweet.

“It’s so lovely to see you here with someone, for the longest time we thought you didn’t like to date. We were so worried you’d end up alone,” one of my older colleagues says. She has a tendency to not know when to stop talking.

“Nope, not alone.” I pull Isabella in by the waist and give her a quick kiss on the cheek for good measure. It is all for show but I hate how real it feels. Does she feel that spark too? Or is it all in my head?

“Hello! Looks like you’ve been avoiding me all night or something,” Lefts says, coming up to Isabella and I. The rest of my colleagues disperse and he chuckles. “I sure know how to clear a room.”

“How are you, Tony?” I smile and try to avoid looking at his hair.

“Pretty good except for this catastrophe, I lost a bet and now I’m blonde,” he says, pointing to his hair.

“Oh my gosh, we thought you did it on purpose.” Isabella laughs.

“No fucking way, this shit is terrible but that’s what you get when a bunch of rich guys don’t like to bet money,” he says with a shrug.

“Well, hopefully it comes out soon,” I offer.

“Hopefully sooner than it took you to come out,” he teases, and I offer a fake laugh. Nothing like trying to get on your boss’s good side.

“Are you here with anyone?” Isabella asks, and I shoot her a look. What is she doing?

“Nope, haven’t had anyone who can keep up with me yet,” he says with a shrug.

“Maybe now that you’ve gone blonde you’ll have more fun,” she teases. Lefts matches her laughter and I’m relieved he thought her joke was funny. I should learn to have more faith in Isabella, she is a people charmer if I ever knew one.

Lefts excuses himself to make his rounds, and I’m relieved. At least he’ll be off my back for the rest of the night thanks to Isabella.
