“Sorry, it’s Dylan Marsh. I’m just calling to let you know I won’t be coming in today.” I don’t give an excuse or offer any more information. I’m not even sure which receptionist I got but they don’t press for more information. I think that was the first time in all my time of working there that I’ve ever called out without actually being sick. It was kind of exhilarating to say the least.

“All set babe!” I call out to Isabella. I hear her rattling around in the kitchen, probably making us breakfast or something.

“I was trying to make us breakfast but you forgot to go grocery shopping again so we don’t have much,” Isabella says as I join her in the kitchen.

“Whoops, I guess that’s something we’ll have to start doing more of.” I smile and nuzzle my body into hers. She spins around to face me.

“Did you really call out?” She asks surprised.

“I did, are you ready to go? We should hit the road quickly.” I suggest.

“Let’s do it.”

We both take the train to her college, stopping at the nearby U-Haul place and I think about the irony of us renting a U-Haul to move her stuff. Of course this is way past our third date, so I guess we’re not a stereotype or anything. The thought of moving Isabella into my home is enough to make me want to call out of work everyday. I loved Isabella more than I had anyone else in my life and I still couldn’t believe she was all mine. It seems like some days we’re moving in slow motion toward things, but today she was one step closer to becoming mine.

I would eventually propose, with the ring I had especially made for her. But she isn’t ready yet and I’m being patient. She’s still in her twenties, still wanting to have fun, and I don’t want her to feel held back because she’s dating someone so much older. So I keep the ring a secret, and the moment I feel like she’s ready, I’ll pop the question. But for now, she’s moving in and becoming mine.

“What are you thinking about?” I ask Isabella as she drives quietly. She hasn’t said much since we’d picked up the boxes from her apartment.

“Well, part of me is sad for moving out of my apartment, but the rest of me is excited to get to wake up next to you everyday.” She smiles.

“You don’t think you’ll tire of that?”

“I could never.” She admits.

“I love you Isabella Gold, and one day I’m going to officially make you mine.”

“Oh yeah?” She bites down on her bottom lip.

“Oh yeah.” I tell her. There’s never been anything or anyone I was more sure of.

“I love you too Dylan Marsh. One of these days I’m going to let you do that.” She winks.

As we drive down the highway, it feels like the start of the rest of our lives.
