I lifted my brow. “I thought I was in charge here?"

He sighed and held up his hands. "Fine."

" Jennings, you're going to tell us everything you know about Gennifer Goode. Everything. Spare nothing."

He crossed his arms. "And if I don't?"

Gabe laughed. "Well, then I let her come in there, and we've had this discussion before, Tate. She's very, very good with knives. Or did you forget again?"

"What do you want to know?"

"Well, we gathered some intel from your mother's summer house, but there's a lot to go through, and we don't have a lot of time. How is Gennifer connected to all of this?"

He rolled his eyes. "Is it my fault that you're too dumb to see it?"

"You're supposed to be making things faster for us. If you don't…" Gabe's fingers hovered over the button, and I smacked him.

"Jennings, talk to me."

He glowered at Gabe but was listening to my voice.

"Fine. My father and her parents were close. After her father was ousted from Intelligence, Gennifer's mother took her away. She tried to get away from all of it. She sent her to therapy, did all the right things, and gave her a life so that they didn't even need the old man. And for all intents and purposes, she seemed like she didn't want his life. But then she started working in Intelligence, and now she's even further in than her old man was. But instead of revenge, she's after power. She wants the thing that her father couldn't get. I guess the old man always said that she didn't do anything right because she was a daughter and not a son."

I rolled my eyes. "Ugh, when will men learn?"

He shrugged. "Anyway, she didn't care about the Intelligence offices. As far as she was thinking, that was just baby power. She wants real power. The kind the Syndicate has."

I cursed under my breath. "She knows who they are?"

"She not only knows who they are, she's helped put some of them on their seats and has been ingratiating herself with the others. There are those who opposed her. And when you oppose her, she gets rid of you. She tried to deal with Seth Disick by sending you after him. That failed because the women there for the cult weren't being trafficked. But once other Syndicate members realize she almost got to him, let's just say you will be finding his body in shreds."

I cursed under my breath. Jesus Christ.

"As for my father, he has been a Syndicate member all my life, it turns out. He had an exit plan that did not include me. So fuck him."

"Why is Gennifer after him?"

"It would seem my father is very much a wanker. There have been many allegations made by women over the years that he made so-called 'unwanted inappropriate advances' toward them."

"That’s just brilliant,"

He shrugged. "Anyway, Gennifer was one of those women who never filed a report. He saw her as nothing. She interned with him, ready to learn, and according to her, he hurt her."

"So, why am I involved?"

Tate shook his head. "I have no idea. My best guess is that she wants to get back at Rogues for ousting her father. Apparently, his disregard for her only got worse after he got ousted from Rogues and MI5 started taking a closer look at his dealings. He was forced to step down, and her family suffered. You're the easiest way to get back at Rogues."

I turned to Gabe. Still not a great connection, but okay. “So what was she doing in South Africa?"

Tate shrugged. "Is that where she is?" He laughed. "One by one, she's been taking over Syndicate companies, building herself up. She wants to sit as the Empress."

"Okay," I said, "tell us where she’ll go next. After what she's done to you and your family, your mini empire, where will she go?"

He laughed. "You think I know?"

I studied him closely. "Yes, I think you do."

He sighed. "Well, maybe Corsica.”
