“So you’re thinking of running for Congress in a few years? We could use more young, energetic faces. Just be prepared to work hard and get known around here.”

“I’m willing to knock on every door in our district,” Brendan assured him. “I can do a lot for all of us.”

Afterward, he stopped in the restroom, which was at the end of a long hall. When he stepped out, Diana was waiting for him.

“Hey, you.” She gazed at him with soft blue eyes.

It was still a shock to see her without glasses in public. Diana was beautiful, as always, but her face looked naked.

She leaned against the wall, her dark hair tousled and her bangs swept across her forehead. Based on the hectic pink of her cheeks, Ian probably hadn’t let her come. Smart move; Di would never be able to hide an orgasm in a crowded restaurant with all her nearest and dearest around her.

Diana touched his arm. “It’s been a while. Where has the time gone?”

“Hey, Di,” Brendan said cheerfully, scanning the hall. Empty, but someone could walk in. “To what do I owe the honor? I’m sure everyone wants to talk to the bride.”

Diana rolled her eyes. “Well, I want to talk to the best man. This is probably the only time we’ll have all weekend to be alone.”

Brendan put his hands in his pockets. “What can I do for you?”

Di frowned. “A little bird told me you’re stressed. Should Ian and I be worried?”

They were a unit, Di and Ian. Neither of them ever seemed to talk about themselves as individuals anymore. It was alwayswe. Us.The couple vibes had amped up since they got engaged and moved in together. Did they ever think their own thoughts? Feel their own feelings?

Deep down, Brendan knew it got under his skin because he’d been awewith Ian for so long. He knew how good it felt to be that close to someone.

“Who told you I was stressed?”

“Oh, someone.” Di smiled coyly, adjusting the white collar on her tight blue dress. Brendan’s gaze caught on the deep valley of cleavage peeking from her V-neck, and he forced his eyes up to her face.

“You and Ian don’t need to worry,” he assured her. Di had a smudge of chocolate by her mouth. Wiping it off, he chucked her under the chin. “It’s part of the job description.”

It must have been Sonia who told Di. She cared.Shewas worried about him.

Reaching up, Diana ran her fingers through his hair. “When was the last time you got a haircut?Thatworries me. You’re scruffier than Ian for once. No one will have any trouble telling you apart. Was that the idea?”

She was really going to town. Brushing his hair off his forehead, threading her fingers through it and tugging. Brendan shrugged, stepping away and giving Di an apologetic smile.

“It’s been a busy week. I’ll cut it before the wedding, ‘kay? Anything for my future sister-in-law.”

Turning, he met a pair of dark eyes. His whole body tensed up. Sonia stood at the end of the hall, watching him and Diana with a curious furrow between her brows.

Diana turned. “You’re here! We need to talk.” She beckoned to Sonia, who stalked toward her, red boots clicking on the tiled floor.

Brendan gave Di a brotherly peck on the cheek. “I’ll leave you two to chat in the ladies’ room.”

As he walked down the hall to the bustle of the restaurant, he wondered what Diana needed to discuss with Sonia.

He let out a sigh of relief when he heard Di bubble, “Okay, so about the bachelorette party tomorrow night. Let me prepare you…”
